Post by Eat Bass » Mon Mar 19, 2012 4:57 pm

im going to be buying a used copy of massive sometime this week but i would like to know if you guys have any tips as far as buying massive used in the safest manner possible. is there a transfer license button on NI's website that makes it easy as that? is there a way that i can guarantee the other person will give me the license? should we make agreement via PM and ill save those for proof? any help would be appreciated.

Can you find anyone selling their license for cheap? That seems sort of unusual...

I sold massive on the cheaps. I sold it to a fellow dsf'er. The seller has to do the license transfer. I also sold battery on ebay...

Do you know the seller? How'd you meet them? Can you do the transaction with your credit card, or on ebay? That will give you more protection.

What is the deal with paypal, do they offer protections for fully private transactions?

There is a chargeback feature but it can be a pain. I find calling your credit card company and telling them you've been scammed easier to get something done ASAP. But I like payal for the ease of use in sending money.

I dont see how it would be sold legally for 40 bucks if NI sells it for like 200. seems a tad sketch.

These type of sites have been around for a long time. The catch is you will be scammed and your credit card details will most likely be stolen/shared/abused. They accept only Visa and Mastercard paid directly on their site, NO other form of payment including credit union, bank, paypal, checkout etc is accepted. Huge red flag right there, they might as well only accept Western Union. All the 'testimonials' are within a couple of months of each other with similar writing styles, vague info on the website, their company identity differs from their web name, and no details/reviews of them on the internet. Plus I've seen that website template in use on similar sites.

I doubt it would be legitimate if you even got anything at all. A demo with generated registration keys or straight up warez links is my bet.

AFAIK Massive was never OEM. That's usually discs packed with things like videocards/motherboard and in this case something like a MIDI Controller. As I recall, the closest way Massive was distributed like that was when you bought the AK1 interface and got a redemption code for 1 free synth which could be used to get Massive direct from NI for free, that's how I got it. They stopped doing that, and now only offer discounts.

If you search around for OEM Massive only similarly shady sites show up.

It's not that much money to risk if you're curious, but don't use your real card. Get one of those rechargeable throw-away cards and put 40 on it.

Just checked and the billing site they use is '88billing' which was registered just a couple of months after this website you linked, and both are hosted on the same German server. The testimonials are from the same time frame, and one was even almost a year before the site was registered haha.

Delete the link from the post and forget it imo.

Thanks wormcode I'll forget about them. I did email them, there shouldn't be any problem with them just having my email address right?

i knew you were gonna post this when I saw your other thread. You might as well save up an extra $100 or $200 and get an older version of komplete. It's worth it for kontakt alone. I've used guitar rig a bit and it's quite nice. I don't use battery as I've got ableton, but fm8 looks powerful. Still need to take a day or two to learn it a bit.

edit: how could you think it's legit for a minute when they're selling it for $200 on the NI site?

Welcome. Yeah just save up a bit, or try to buy a license from someone. I'm sure it will pop up for a decent price, they have sold millions of licenses by now surely.

Other than possible spam I wouldn't worry. I'm interested in what they say though haha.

€129 is about 172 US dollars give or take. 130 would be around 80 quid.

I see them on Ebay sometimes for pretty cheap, but there's usually a few bidders. What I would be concerned with is if they keep their own version installed with a key. NI allows you to install it on multiple computers, as long as you don't use them at the same time. It's only a written/verbal agreement though, they don't track. Just make sure someone has solid good feedback. Check local classifieds too. Someone was selling some serious plugin bundles near me recently for really cheap, like Waves bundle and Sonnox stuff and they had all the discs and paperwork. Studios close down every day unfortunately.
