That French House Bass...

Post by Ataxia » Mon Mar 19, 2012 11:50 pm

I've tried unsuccessfully to recreate that funky French House bass sound. Does anyone know how artists like Daft Punk and Patrick Alavi used to do it back in the day? Is there a VST that has a preset or capabilities to create this type of sound?

Ok, so I didn't mean a VST in particular, but in FL Studio there's a preset called "Electric", and if you cut certain feelings it kinda has that sound. But basically the bass sound I'm looking for, if you want examples is really prominent in these three:

"Take Me Ce Soir" by Sedat the Turkish Avenger

"Birthday" by Patrick Alavi

(in this one you can clearly hear during a break that the bass has lots of high harmonics when it is high passed filtered early in the song.)

and "Burnin'" by Daft Punk

"The Babe Coke" by Sébastien Léger

It's got that kind of slapped quality, and a pluck clearly audible in the upper frequencies, but also filtered.

I should have stated this in the beginning, but thanks for the advice anyway.

Short Cuts is such a solid summer album.

p.s. Obvious restatement of previous posts: get a bass guitar and record it mate :)

I've been playing guitar for years, but a) I don't have the money for a bass guitar, needless to say all the preamps etc I would need, and b) I'm not entirely convinced all french house artists record themselves playing. Obviously Fred Falke is crazy good (Intro has an amazing bassline) but I don't think all french house artists have that kind of talent.
