KAHN
[Punch Drunk, Box Clever, SureSkank Collective]
{Bristol, UK}

"Kahn is a young musician and producer from Bristol. As part of the Sureskank Convention crew, he has been involved in the Bristol bass music scene for some time and has remained eclectic in his musical output since the start. Having recently released his debut single ‘Like We Used To’ on the acclaimed Punch Drunk record label, this year has seen him make his presence known across the world." - Electronic Explorations

"Kahn is a relative newcomer, but hasn’t taken long to impress us: his first drop for Peverelist’s Punch Drunk label, ‘Like We Used To’ was a diamond set slightly off-centre between r’n'b and garage (and nothing “future” about it), while ‘Illy’ / ‘Tehran’, last month’s follow up, was looming half-step that showcased Kahn’s darker side. He also contributed an impressive digital EP, Altar, to A Future Without, and indulged his dubbier tendencies on a 10″ titled ‘Way Mi Defend’. Kahn is from Bristol, and it shows on his FACT mix: as well as tracks from Peverelist, Pinch, new Punch Drunk signings Zho and Kahn himself, there’s material from Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack and Martina Topley-Bird. It’s also almost definitely the first time A Perfect Circle have featured in a FACT mix." - FACT Magazine

"One of Bristol's most promising producers drops the best release on Box Clever to date...If this was released in '06 it would probably be considered a genre classic by now." - Boomkat

JOE NICE
[DubWar NYC, GourmetBeats, DataSet Clothing, ESS Radio, Reconstrvct]
{Baltimore, US}

Representing Baltimore, Joe Nice is universally recognized as the ambassador of the dubstep sound in North America and has been instrumental in the growth and success of dubstep for nearly a decade. In other words, he's been playing dubstep before it was called dubstep. He is North America's first dubstep DJ. Joe's monthly radio show on GourmetBeats.com was the first to feature dubstep in the states and his worldwide fan base continues to grow with his enthusiastic stage presence & live performance, upfront selection and skillful mixing. Joe's record bag is a who's who of dubstep... If you've never heard it before, chances are, you'll hear it from Joe Nice. He is the first American-based DJ to play on London pirate radio, Rinse.FM, the first American-based DJ to play the legendary DMZ bi-monthly bash and the first American-based DJ to play FWD>> @ Plastic People. A member of Electric SoundStage Radio, DataSet Clothing and resident & co-founder of the most successful dubstep party in North America, DubWar (New York City) and selected as one of URB's NEXT 100 (in 2007), JoeNice is continually taking dubstep to the next level and beyond.

--August 17, 2005
"Ultimately though, we'll have to wait for the dubs to be cut for DMZ's next Brixton party, which lately is the place most anthems are born. Who knows what Mala, Loefah, or that man Joe Nice has up his sleeve? Will he/won't he...play some Lionel Richie? Go Team Joe!"
--September 14, 2005
"If you like dubstep but didn't reach DMZ's fourth incredible Brixton bash, where were ya? Journalists had traveled from as far as Eastern Europe to attend, while one DJ, America's Joe Nice, had journeyed from even further afield. Like many musical circles, the inner confines of dubstep are not easy to breach. If there are parallels between South London and Baltimore, they're not obvious, but Joe Nice has found some. Sure there are other DJs in the U.S. who play dubstep releases, but if the brutal truth be told, if you're not playing new music, you're not truly contributing. Joe knows this truth, and came armed to the recent DMZ with a stack of dubs. Dubplates, however, do not a DJ make. Anyone can invest, others still can pester for unreleased beats, but the magic truly comes when a new vision, greater than the sum of the dubs, is seen. Joe's DMZ set did this."
- Martin Clark [aka Blackdown, of Keysound Recordings, London], Pitchfork

CODIAC
[SUBduction, Sub.Fm, Together]

The one like Codiac moved to Boston in 2003, played in several bands, then started spinning vinyl in '08 and is now embedded deep in the Boston underground bass music scene. Currently he is the Director of Business Development for the Together Festival and also helps run the SUBduction Productions events and promo camp. His eclectic selection and legit DJing skills have led him to perform 'longside the likes of Martyn, Pinch, Pangaea, Moldy, Mad Professor, SBTRKT, Truth and heaps of Boston's best local talent. Spinning some proper deep and dutty tunes spanning many subgenres of dubstep and beyond, Codiac can also be heard every Monday night 9pm-12am on his weekly Sub.FM radio show in company with fellow badman DJ Spliffolian.

SPLIFFOLIAN
[SUBduction, Sub.Fm]

Spliffolian AKA Selecta Folian has been spinning records for the past 11 years, performing alongside numerous heavy weights including the Mad Professor, Kentaro, Scuba, 2562, Roommate, and Twilight Circus Dub Sound System. Always an avid music listener and musician, he began djing at his college radio station in Portland, OR playing reggae and dub. Upon moving to San Francisco after college, he became fully immersed in the SF dubstep scene. Departing San Francisco for Utrecht, NL in 2008, Spliffolian quickly linked up with local dubstep crews, holding down a monthly residency almost immediately and making regular guest appearances around the Utrecht/Amsterdam areas. Now residing in Boston, Spliffolian has continued to murk whatever scene he finds himself in playing alongside his new local crew SUBduction. Always fond of radio, he has been active on SubFM for a number of years with his current show, SUBduction Radio, 'longside Codiac every Monday, 2-4am GMT.

IMMVC
[Dai Lo, Rwd.Fm]

Baptized in 2008 at London’s DMZ, the heart of the UK underground music scene, IMMvc (Max Von Cannon) was introduced to and inspired by the bass driven genre popularly known today as “dubstep”. IMMvc has garnered a wide variety of musical exposure that ranges from dubstep’s traditional roots with artists such as Mala and Digital Mystikz, and with sounds of early reggae dub (RSD, Kromestar, Cotti), to the precursors of modern dubstep, such as Skream and Benga, and albums such as Caspa and Rusko’s FabricLive 37. After leaving London and progressively becoming more tired of the commercial Top 40 music that seems to notoriously plague the U.S. nightlife, IMMvc stepped up to the decks himself. He remained in the shadows as an unknown bedroom DJ until earning his recognition when he won Boston’s Together Festival DJ mix competition in 2011. This past year has been a breakout year for the 22-year-old Boston DJ. Since Togetherfest 2011, IMMvc’s involvement in the Boston local underground music scene has grown and he remains passionate and devoted to his art of mixing bass music.

"There is a lot of tension in the music that carries a satisfactory darkness with it, but it's also lazy music. You don't have to dance hard to move with it. It was born with a reefer in it's gob."
