Paranormal Activity?
Okay guys, so I just watched the first Paranormal Activity and I'm 2/3rds of the way through the second, kindda creeped the fuck out right now, the second seems much scarier, but neither are particularly scary IMO, just creepy and weird tbh... opinions?

Re: Paranormal Activity?
Both were rubbish and didn't scare me. I don't scare easy. I have never been scared watching a movie. I don;t think anyone has made a film scary enough yet.
Re: Paranormal Activity?
when i was a kid movies were scary even movies that weren't supposed to be scary

Re: Paranormal Activity?
I must say, I'm normally a bit of a "film snob" according to some, but I really liked the PA series, I think they actually followed really well.
If anything, it was the moments in it where you anticipate something happening and it never does that were the scariest. Most of the effects, although effective, didn't fright me.
It's that horrible tension that you build watching it in your head, Looking at the empty spaces just expecting. I can't really say many films have had that many moments that work so well and I have made a concerted effort to watch a lot of horror's.
I can totally see why it's not to everyone's taste though.
If anyone is a fan of that style though, Check out La Casa Muda. The film is one continuos shot, balls deep in tension.

Yeah, I quite liked these films (fuk da h8terz). Got a bit formulaic in the end, but I think that the thing that makes them so effective is that it takes place in a normal house, not some big old scary mansion or a graveyard, etc. but in a house, with a lot of shit taking place in the day too. Made it easy to put yourself in their place.
After me and my girlfriend saw the first one, we were in bed talking about the scene where the woman gets pulled out of the bed, just as I was saying something I slid down the bed as though I got pulled. Girlfriend screamed, then during the night, she woke me up so I would stand outside the toilet whilst she went

Re: Paranormal Activity?
First one I thought was good. It does a lot of things well and had some neat ideas. It also played off the fact that ghost movies only work when they are based in fear of the unknown whilst also making the ghost still tangible (the footprints in the shit on the floor was cool I thought as a nice way of not showing the threat whilst giving it a real physical presence especially)
The second one just felt really pointless. It just did the same thing but not as well and felt really anticlimatic and lacking some of the creative bits in the first. Had the odd bit with a nice atmosphere like the first but nah I didn't like it
aint seen the third.

Re: Paranormal Activity?
First one was pretty cool, actually creeped me out a little in places. The second was hilariously bad. I've not seen a series go to shit quite that quickly before, I've not even bothered with the third.
Re: Paranormal Activity?
I honestly quite liked these and I'd have called myself a film snob too. But they are gunna milk it for all it's worth, so Ima just stay away from it.
First was good, second ok...it's gunna get tired though.

Yeah, I agree, the first was much better, the second was pretty shit... And the ending was terrible, the only bit that made me jump like a motherfucker was when she was sitting in the kitchen and all the Cupboards and shit just exploded, otherwise it sucked...
Gonna watch the third tonight, will give opinions latah

Re: Paranormal Activity?
I thoroughly enjoyed 1 2 and 3. My opinion is they are heads and shoulders above most of the recent horror films that are being released.
I think Weedle hit it on the head, the scariest parts are when nothing is happening. Sure I jumped at parts, but for me the tension was the frightening part.
For me, Paranormal Activity was one of those movies that crawled under my skin and just hung there for a bit. It creeped me right out and kept me feeling creeped out for the next half day or so!

Maybe this is why I am not a fan of the series. I started off by watching the 2nd one.kingldub wrote: The second was hilariously bad.

Re: Paranormal Activity?
Number 3 is jumpy as shit and a well thought out horror movie.
Not a massive fan of the first 2 but still think the series is good but expect it to become a really stupid and crap franchise like the saw films.

Re: Paranormal Activity?
Movies that are supposed to be scary never appealed to me. Why should I watch it?
I enjoyed Law Abiding Citizen, some people say that has some scary moments but that's not what I liked about it
obviously.
If a movie is meant to be scary and it is, does that make it a good film?

honestly i didn't care for paranormal activity...it jsut never caught my attention. not particularly scary, if i wanted to get scared of real life events i would go read obscure articles online that end abruptly about how there is a cave monster in a cave they want to explore (+1 to whoever gets that reference)
and to the people saying they've never been scared of a movie in their life has obviously never watched the movie IT when they were 5 years old
