Selling Out !?
What are your views?
I don't think there is any such thing. People move on. Peoples lives change through music. People start of making music as a hobby and then becomes a business. Djs/Producers want to make people dance.
I LOVE the deeper/darker side of things myself but I see a lot of hate for people who move on and make money.

Re: Selling Out !?
yeah of course it exists in dubstep but i'd like to think more on the business side of things rather than the production side. as in labels/organisers endorsing the sound that sells the most.

i dont like this idea that just because somethings good it cant be successful on a mass scale. just because thats the way it is doesnt mean thats the way it has to be

I think it's hilarious when people say Skream sold out just because he makes different music than he did in 06
Re: Selling Out !?
I used to buy strictly dnb records but then I started buying other styles of dance music too so now I call myself a sellout on the daily, nbd.

Re: Selling Out !?
Of course it exists, the argument of "I just make different music now" is just a good one to hide behind.

I don't care what producers do. I listen to music i enjoy, if a producer i like starts making tunes i dislike.. i won't buy or listen to it. Simple.
There will never be a shortage of good music, we lose some because they get a taste for big money from being in the charts and being known worldwide.. but we gain new fresh producers at a similar, if not faster, rate.
Good music is good music, shit music is shit music.. regardless of the motives behind the track, whether it be for the love of the music or simply for the money.

The moment artistic integrity is compromised for money, you are a sell out.

Re: Selling Out !?
Selling out doesn't exist. Artists that become passionate about their music and and want to share it with everyone while it maintains some commerciality, will eventually come across an opportunity either through their own effort, or by another entity to monetize off of this. If they end up becoming a common name, and are always seen on differnt charts, people tend to say they've SOLD OUT. If they do a commercial, or make their own tv show people react the same way.
Each creative artist has his own method of expressing his ideas (music, art, film, writing, etc.) and may eventually lose interest in one and move on to another. Change is exciting, and is natural to have a crave for it in certain people. That's why a lot of musicians segway into other sectors of the entertainment industry.
If you are one to think an artist is selling out, then do not look at commercial media platforms for discovering artists and support independant artist by helping them continue their passion by them making enough money to be able to do it full-time, to constantly supply you with music. If you want to see more music from an artist you love but fear the possibility of them going "mainstream", then buy the music, subscripe to their membership pages, sign up to their email lists, buy their merchandise, go to their shows, and help spread the word about them. If you are their #1 promoter or a source of bringing them revenue, consider learning about management and work on becoming their manager. Then make sure they avoid all avenues that would cause them to lose their loyal fans that might consider them "sell outs" (even though it can hinder their careers with all the competition).

Selling out definitely exists. You're say that people proclaim artists to be sellouts whenever they change their music and/or become more popular, but that's simply not true. People proclaim artists to be sellouts when said artists actually SELL OUT, meaning they change/water down their sound not because they want to, but because it furthers their material gain (money).
That being said, Skream most definitely did not sell out, I'm not in any way contradicting what I said before.
