Deep 808 bass kicks???

Post by [Lg] » Mon Apr 09, 2012 11:11 pm

So I apologize in advance if this has already been covered, this forum is so huge that the search bar has availed me nothing, just a bunch of unrelated topics. I've been trying to make my own deep sub 808 kicks in massive, the ones with the really long releases like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rG3Zg41UJQY I've found some tutorials but it doesn't really get me where i wan't. I've been able to make some but I'm not too happy with them. I was wondering if anyone had some experience with this kind of kick in massive and wanted to help me out a bit. Or if there is another forum that covers this lead me that way that'd be tight

IN massive

OSC 1 to a sine, pitch to -40 and then add an envelope to pitch it back up +40 with a quick attack and a quick decay. Add an envelope to the amp too

OSC 2 to a sine pitch down -12

Play around with Envelope4 to get the release sounding right

Hope that helps

I make my kicks with just a small cut of a saw wave, bit crushed like hell, then EQ it so it doesnt pop too high, and leave anything below 90hz, open completely for sub bass.
I sometimes apply phase to it to give it that tight and dry sound.

But yes an 808 kick is practically a sine wave, as the guy above said.
Because sines are very thick sound waves.
Keep progressing, one day you'll be great. :)

sounds like a standard 808 with a low pass filter with another 808 or a sine wave under it. I think the one you can hear punching thru is a short 808 hit and the release comes from the one underneath. Remove the attack so the one under comes in smooth. This way you should be able to crank it up in the mix.

I think
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Big Chocolate released a sample pack on Ohmforce's facebook awhile ago, it had a nice 808 with a really long sustain like the one in that song. I think you should be able to find it pretty easy :W: It had some other good samples too :)

zoom in on an 808 with a long tail
synth that
????
profit

it's a near perfect sine with a rapid decay in pitch -- at first it is a high pitch that quickly falls to the fundamental bass tone as the amplitude decays. you will need two envelopes and one oscillator

Amazingly enough, Apple's Garage Band has a perfect 808 rig in it's hip-hop kit. Too bad it sounds like crap as a DAW on the whole.

Grab that lex luger drum kit floating around. It has some pretty ridiculous 808 sounding kicks.
