Why Burial is Universal

Post by YourDad » Sat Apr 14, 2012 1:08 am

Continued from the "what's the point of it?" topic about how Burial can be felt all over the world. Maccaveli and I can only understand this track Distant Lights as the lyrics are:
"Melbourne I need you"

:D

This is true, before Burial released this track he sent it to me asking if it was a true enough representation of the Melbourne sound. I gave it a 7/10 but said he should release it anyway cos all you ignorant UK heads won't know the difference.

Burial really makes me want to stuff my face with McDonalds, and click my spurs together.
He speaks to the American crowd.

i know it sounds stupid but there's just a kind of grey gloomy feel to a lot of his tunes that i cant really imagine people from better climates really understanding. also in my dream last night i was going round with some kind of portable record player getting people to listen to kindred but everyone was saying that it was too muffled, played the wav and everyone loved it. then the government halted the production of vinyl completely!!! such a shit dream

That's funny because I thouht all the clicks and stuff were indicitive to what sunlight sounds like
flashing through gloobs of spanish moss blowing in the late afternoon precurser wind of a tropical rainfall...

Sure, Melbourne has nice weather like 40% of the time, but the rest of the time it's absolute shite. Believe me when I tell you the weather here gets grey and gloomy as fuck lol

no guys Burial actually makes all of his music inspired by the "Portland, Oregon sound." You guys really wouldn't understand it, you have to live here to get it. Essentially, it's always rainy here and Burial's music is inspired by that.

see, this is portland:

and Burial's music is all inspired by that. He actually secretly lives here.

Burial is from Amsterdam, he gets all the bitches and smokes 20 grams a day, and then goes on to produce tunes like Ashtray Wasp. Obviously.

OPs, I don't get why you took it to heart so much when the dude suggested that there is a UK feel to Burial tracks. A lot of times the environment it's produced in will have a major effect. You never hear a tune and think, that could've only been made in (or for/about), say Germany, for example? Like, I'm listening to some dub or roots tune, doesn't exactly put huge country mansions in my head, know what I mean?

Burial's stuff has a really distinct UK feel to it. Doesn't mean it can't be appreciated elsewhere. I just think it's a snapshot of a time and a place.

Whatever, maybe that's just because I live here and link it to that. Just an opinion. Peace Austra-Bros.

Oh my, we throw sausages on the barby and when we order aussie pizzas it comes with a stubbie of beer and a lit cigarette.
Come on it has to be Melbourne as the lyric says so and the title Distant Lights could possibly mean Distant(VERY VERY VERY VERY otherside of the worldly distant) Lights.

We're all jokin here hahahaha

burial represents the qubequois sound imo, i mean it's really the most suitable music to listen to when you're discussing the merits of freezing scholarship fees over a glass of maple syrup and a pork poutine. plus his music has a really cold feel to it and its cold here.
