Chasing Shadows Bass in NI Massive

Post by PatrickReza » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:48 pm

Hey guys so I've been after a sound similar to the bass at 1:22 for a while now.

sounds like heavy flanger and phaser usage, any tips/tutorials to close sounds would be much appreciated :D

this is what i've come up with so far:

So, you make a thread asking for help/suggestions on how to make a particular sound, then when you do it yourself you won't share?

In massive filters in series, first one set to double notch and second bandpass or bandreject then modulate to taste.
Also its all about the dirty reece pre filter and ill keep that part to myself if your almost there.
I fully believe that these sounds are resampled and a lot of the fuckery is done in the sampler+long effects chains to get the meat. Also mixes and mastering probably add a lot to how big their tracks sound.
I'll give one clue away to how i think i nearly got there, making a reece as huge as possible with the out of phase oscillations as noticeable as possible, load this into a sampler and then apply pitch bends. You get some serious heavyness but fx chains you will have to work out for yourself, all i will say is do not drench in distortion.
So many people do this and it just ruins the sound, less is more and all that.Watch the reso masterclass and listen to how he uses plugins in logic just for gaining the volume of sounds to add weight, beleive he isn't lying, the auto filter and bitcrusher plugs in logic when used for this purpose just seem to beef the sound up a touch.
Also massive isn't the best for reeces but is capable and +1 on the phaser flanger combo but again less is more. ;-)
