The finest and most cutting edge in UK club music
Zed Bias is the main musical alter-ego of the Manchester based producer Dave Jones. One of the founders of breakbeat garage, the prolific and innovative Jones is also well known under his Maddslinky moniker as a forefather of dubstep. Bringing soul and dancefloor heat to everything he touches, his unmistakable productions have made him a lynchpin of the UK club sound for over a decade. His many other pseudonyms include Phuturistix, Henchmen, Daluq, Talissman, Ruffcut Bias, Nu Design, 7 Wonders, Dekata Project and Strontium Dog – just some of the names under which he has recorded over the years, as himself or in collaboration with others.
These many aliases have enabled Jones to experiment, collaborate, and duck and weave through different scenes; but the twin constants throughout his career have been the Maddslinky and Zed Bias projects, which are ever-developing entities, Maddslinky exploring deeper underground territory and Zed Bias delivering the out-and-out club bangers every time.
In 2000 Jones entered the Official UK Singles Chart as Zed Bias with the “Neighbourhood” single, widely regarded as one of the all time classic UK Garage tracks. The first full Zed Bias LP ‘Experiments With Biasonics’ came out in 2007, gaining immense acclaim and cementing the Zed Bias name at the forefront of the club scene.
With expectations running high for more Zed Bias magic, Autumn 2011 brought the release of Biasonic Hotsauce – Birth of The Nanocloud, the eagerly-awaited second LP. This ‘all killer, no filler’ album distils and reworks a wide spectrum of club styles, from house to R’n’B, dancehall to dubstep to UK Bass/Funky, gaining early radio play and support from BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Benji B, Mista Jam, Rob da Bank and more, plus reams of positive coverage including Clash, Pitchfork, BBC Music, URB and Resident Advisor. Guests include Skream, Mark Pritchard, Toddla T, Falty DL, Sam Frank, MdCL, Dynamite MC and more; the album was preceded on 29th August by the double A-side single “Fairplay” / “Phoneline”, featuring Jenna G (Chase & Status) and Rosco Trim (Dawn Raid), respectively, a single which is enjoying continuing support in all the right places. Also setting this LP apart from the crowd, the bespoke artwork was created by comic world legend Boo Cook of Judge Dredd/Marvel Comics fame.

Emerging from beneath a pile of Garage records and battered kicks to become one of the country’s most sought-after disc jockeys, Brackles now commands as much respect in the studio as he does in the dance. At University he won a nationwide DJ competition, bettering thousands of entrants (despite playing Garage at the height of its unacceptability); held down residencies at Detonate and Futureproof; and spent every other waking moment in the studio (to the detriment of his degree).

His breakthrough came in 2007, when a track entitled Broken Harp was picked up and battered to death by Appleblim and Geiom, both of whom went on to sign Brackles productions to their respective labels. DJs including Oneman, Alex Nut and Ramadanman cottoned on to his woozy, laser-driven productions, bringing him to the attention of Planet Mu, for whom he has now released two singles. His reputation as a deadly remix artist continues to grow; having completed work for Data Records, Polydor and No Hats No Hoods, most recently contributing a mix to the release of MSTRKRFT's Heartbreaker and Kid Cudi's Day and Night. But it is Brackles’ skills behind the 1210s that really drives his music; every beat is informed by an in-depth knowledge of the dancefloor, and high profile mixes for FACT magazine, XLR8R and radio DJs including Mary Anne Hobbs, Sinden and Toddla T have earned him worldwide recognition as one of the scene’s foremost tastemakers.
