Pearsall presents Behind The Mask (100% Vinyl Dubstep Mix)

Post by pearsall » Sat May 05, 2012 8:13 am

Here's a new mix I put together last weekend. It's a pure crate-digging selection - a bunch of older tunes that I pulled out to give me a soundtrack for commuting in and out of central London. As usual, it's 100% vinyl from start to finish, and I've written a few words to accompany the mix on my blog. It's all on the deeper/darker tip - no brostep here.

Enjoy! :D

It doesn't seem to follow the trend of dungeon or deep or upbeat for example.
When I saw the tracklist I expected different tracks.
But even the tracks within each genre, you have chosen tracks that are more musical and larger pictures of a bigger puzzle.
I'm not sure if this makes sense?

J:Kenzo I associate with the Roteks for some reason, Mortal kombat is different.
It's almost an encompassing bass mix over just one type of Dubstep.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I wanted to achieve; originally I had the idea to do a purely dungeon style set of moody halfstep, but when I started whittling through my records, it ended up evolving in a different direction (I wrote a bit before about the process of how I do my mixes here if you're interested). OK this might sound a bit pretentious, but I always try to think of a mix as something whole, not just a random string of tracks, so I wanted it to evolve over the course of the mix and not just stay in one place. Which is a long-winded way of saying that I'm glad you understood that, and that you enjoyed it!

Sick mix man, great selections and some nice mixes. I love that menacing, somnolent bass heavy vibe. Recommended!
