Honestly, I can't hear some whistling.

Major hint: if there are little crackles, little whistles that you can hear but are really low, leave them. Gives the music some 'soul'.
Just my 2 cents tho, I love my music with a raw edge to it.

Nice track tho, that kick sits perfect.

Should be your mixdown, although it could also be your speakers.
Do you have acces to a spectrum analyzer? Maybe it's visible and you could try n cut it.

Nice tune btw but my Xone headphones don't even project the sub so I can't hear it :)

aslong as you dont hear it in your 320 or wav its from downgrading i guess

Didn't hear it, must be something wrong with your speaker setup/headphones

No, I hear it. I think it's the downgrading of Soundcloud, plus some sort of really harsh limiter. It happens with a lot of deep sounds. I don't really think there's anything you can do about it.

I've experienced the same thing before, at least I'm assuming it's the same thing I haven't listened yet. In this older song of mine it's very apparent

buy real webhosting and host your own stuff along with your own applet for making stuff streamable?

oh and soundcloud streams at 128kbps, so you could preview your recording at that before uploading (also don't upload already squashed files to be transcoded)

I'm sure dithering is meant to make your music sound better at lower quality ??

always wondered what dithering does, sounds like white noise(probably is).

I've been reading up on this, as soundcloud has destroyed a few of my tunes with their compression. From what i gather, the best thing to do is leave a bit of dynamics in your tune, as the transients mask the compression artifacts. If you limit it too much and kill the peaks, then it can sound worse on soundcloud.

It was suggested in a thread(can't remember where, think it might be gearslutz) that if you dither, then the mp3 encoder might spend precious bits on preserving the dither noise, rather than your music. So i don't dither for soundcloud anymore, i can't tell any difference anyway.

If anyone else has any tips on mastering for soundcloud i'd like to hear them. I've noticed some of the sounds in my tunes break up, usually when there isn't much bass and lots of high pitched wide sounds. What i tend to do now is convert to 128 to check what it sounds like, then make adjustments if i need to. Although i haven't found any adjustments that stop these sounds breaking up.

Soundcloud downsamples your work to 128k.

I tihnk your just hearing bitcrushing artifacts from that process.

why are people wasting time mastering for a shitty audio rate and codec for a streaming site? :u:

My thoughts exactly, asif we don't already have enough to do. Everyone who knows about audio knows a 128kb stream is truely awful and therefore isn't any point in trying to make a shit stream sound 0.5% better (other than uploading a WAV to be convertered to a 128kb stream rather than a already low quailty file to be transcoded, as already mentioned by Deadly) At least the stream quality stops rips or at least audiophile conscious rips!

I think you guys have missed the point of the thread. Basically we don't like our tunes sounding like crap on soundcloud and wanted to improve it. Thanks for pointing out the obvious tho.

I always cut out off the whistles on my kicks (some frequency in the high end.)
