I've learned that if I take the time to learn the interface of any free/simple synth I can generate sounds that rival those in Massive. I know that Massive let's you adjust virtually every possible audio parameter, providing for an almost endless possibility of sounds. Is that all that makes Massive special, or is Massive really just all hype and nothing special at all?
So I like Avicii, and I wanted to make something similar to his genre. Turned out really well...

Massive is one of the best synths available today. Tons of options to sculpt your sound, very flexible, really easy to use and sounds great. I don't know why you'd think its all hype, a ton of top producers use it. Its one of those synths that people love to hate, due to its overwhelming popularity.

if i take the time i could teach my dog to make sounds like in massive, doesn't mean my dog is the better option (unless woofs are gonna be the new growls in the future)
massive kicks ass.

no i'm saying that it's so popular because it has an intuitive and simple interface (why so many people use it), it's not the be all end all of plugin synths
a lot of way better synths should take design cues off of NI as far as UI (the way the modulation matrix is setup is brilliant with the drag and drop modularity to it)
as a synth massive is a bit of a cpu hog for what it is
it's good, but nothing special in the sound department (that and it does sound very digital and plastic imo)

oh and also something that is sad is some people can't seem to operate any synth, but massive or translate the basic sound design stuff from massive to another synth

honestly this is why massive has been my go to synth when I wanna dink around. It's literally too easy to modulate so many parameters with a drag of the mouse.

Aren't the modulation options kind of limited though? Like you can only have two things and a side chain at the most on any one control. Don't get me wrong. When I have a sound in my head 9/10 I'll just whip out massive cause I know it'll be quick and easy to create that sound. Interface and layout are superb. Nowadays there are really just psycho good freeware synths out there, though. I really don't think you need to spend $200 on Massive. I think it doesn't hurt to spend $100 on Massive, though. You can find it for that price.
There's honestly been a Massive thread a day here lately. Massive versus X, Y, and Z. Seriously stop obsessing over what you have or don't have, and start making sounds! REEEEEELY.

As mentioned earlier, massive is crazy easy to use, and the amount of modulation you can do inside it is sick. Also, it has alot of unique wavetables. + if you resample some of the wavetables, you'll most likely get sounds no one has heard of before.

i dunno if you had to stick me in the box with only a handful of commercial vsts massive wouldn't be one of them, i'd prolly pick alchemy, omnisphere, trillian, and sylenth1, think that covers the whole gamut of everything and then some

it's modulation oscillator and white noise fx oscillators are so good

i agree, its amongst the best but there are still some better synths out there, even 1 or 2 free ones but they definitely aren't as quick and easy as massive.

In terms of ease of use I think its the best option for someone who is starting out who wants to get some unique sounds...
But A lot of synths sound great once you can decipher what the fuck you are looking at with the horrendous layout and completely non-intuitive interfaces

Gahhh I really want to try alchemy and omnisphere!!!!
Sylenth also has a really easy to use interface, but I've found the sounds it generates are crisp and warm, nothing at all like massive even though it just has mainly standard waves

Love massive, I do struggle to get anything 'warm' out of it though. For those sounds I'll stick to things like albino.
