808 sub bass
Hey guys,
I did a quick search for this but to no avail... if there's a thread I apologize, but here I go.
I really really like the bass in this track
For ages I've thought that the bottom was just a pitched 808, but I've been trying to do it in ableton by putting an 808 sample in a sampler and tuning it... but its too short, too clicky, its not even dynamics wise (compression only squashes the initial part which is what makes it distinctive.) Any suggestions?

Re: 808 sub bass
Load a 808 kick, isolate a single cycle of the waveform and cut it out and loop it and tune it. That's how you get '808 bass'. But I think it's pretty pointless. Just load up a sinewave and tune it low, done. For this sound, you'd either like to use a dirty squarewave, tune it down and modulate the cut-off of a low-pass filter OR distort a sinewave and again, lowpass filter, modulation, etc.

Re: 808 sub bass
for clicks adjust your attack
also there is a wide range of 808 samples of just the kick variations, so do yourself a favor and buy this http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/tape808.html

Re: 808 sub bass
Don't really know what you mean but it isn't a 808 kick pitched up. It's just a synth afai can hear.

Re: 808 sub bass
He's using a standard 808 kick for bass, the click comes from not single-cycle sampling a sine out of it.deadly habit wrote:for clicks adjust your attack

Deadly, this is the production section of the DSF, where simple solutions to simple problems don't occur.deadly habit wrote:well that's rather pointless why not just use a sine wave?

i know what was i thinking trying to be a voice of reason and always trying to simplify things people over complicate all the time on here
Re: 808 sub bass
Being condescending doesn't help anyone with production either. Dude's asking a question and probably didn't know what 808 bass was exactly and I'm guessing he is relatively new at production. Let's not be dicks about it.

Re: 808 sub bass
forget samples
TS-808 free vst
it thumps hard
I`ve got the Goldbaby 808 pack but I still use the 808 sub kick from the TS.
You can adjust the envelope to drop the kick, change pitch, etc.

Re: 808 sub bass
Like deadly said, it's just a pitch envelope. An 808 kick is just a minimally processed sinewave with a pitch envelope on thurr. That's also what pitches the bass in your example.squiggles wrote:Alright thanks guys ill check out that goldbaby stuff. looks niice.
