I've been getting frustrated lately about my songs

Post by Comfi » Mon May 21, 2012 3:21 pm

No mater what I tried to make, everything sounded like shit.

Just checked my monitors there, Left and right both at different levels. Gaahh.

I have a thread here discussing the track, and offering you the chance to remix it, more details in thread! See what you can come up with!

Not sure what your question is :P ? Everyone has the feeling when they just hate everything they make man, just keep at it and don't give up. The fact you can self evaluate means when you do get something good going, you'll know about it.

Exactly what Earjax said. I'm still incredibly amateur, and I've been quite proud of a track I just finished. it's not that great, just that I think I found my personal style with it. Don't be afraid to upload it and ask about it, I upload every track I finish, garbage or not.

i'm having this problem recently, especially with intros. i think i'm just gonna post some WIPs on soundcloud to see if it's just me expecting too much from myself. i always seem to get annoyed that i'm not making stuff as good as the pros

Power through then you will start to make good tunes.

I go through stages of this and I always come out the other side with a drastically increased production and musical quality, then I do it all over agen.

Its when you get to untitled 278 that you think, "fuck it"

Yep, every track. Usually private to mates, but sometimes you'll make something you think is shit but is actually pretty great

Glad you got that figured out though.

I try to limit my horizons a bit, because I lack any artistic focus. I have nearly 20 unfinished tracks on FL and Reason from this month alone. One day I'll be in a DnB mood, next day I'll get hit with a sick bassline for some intense dubstep, and another day I'll just sit around and mess with parameters and sound effects to find some layering options out of boredom.
About to try to get an Adderal scrip for some focus haha.

I always don't like my finished tunes...that's why it takes forever for me to release anything :p
But it's not about making something it's about expressing something!
I don't know everything about producing, but what I do know I convey. What I don't I will eventually learn!

maybe try going back to a few old songs you made. take aspects you like and try to change them up a little. maybe you're in a routine of what you do when you start a song, try anything and everything

When I begin to hate making music I just do everything I find fun, and ignore all the annoying and frustrating mastering/mixing/whatever parts. Usually these sessions involve making completely random shit that I know nobody will want to listen to after (and generally loads of random soloing), but they're fun! haha. Also helps to get away from the computer, play an instrument if you can.
There's a time for pushing through that frustration but sometimes your mind and morale need a break IMO. Good luck man, I'm sure you'll wake up tomorrow and feel a bit better. Really cool track in your sig.
