Galvanize - Wobble?

Post by Mindforce » Tue May 29, 2012 11:17 am

I know almost all of you hate little bitches like me asking "how do I sound like datsik??" But that's not what I'm asking, I've read through all the DSF's threads and 'sounding like datsik' isn't what I'm after as such, just posting in case there's someone who could be so kind as to extinguish my burning curiosity.

So yeah I know I'm one of those trolls who loves datsik. I've searched through loads of threads on the DSF and also youtube "tutorials" but with no luck for this specific sound. I'm just curious as to how he gets the wobbles used in songs like Galvanise. I know that's 100% his sound, and even if I tried using it in any of my songs, it wouldn't get me anywhere cos Datsik has already used it to death. So this isn't a "HOW DO I SOUND LIKE DATSIK??" thread. It's just one of those things that's eating at me cos I can't figure it out. I'm talking about how he has like 3 (triplet) wobbles, but it get's a kinda "woo...oh...ah" sort of sequencial wobble (no idea how else to explain it).

Does anyone know what I mean and/or care to explain how to get that effect?

I've read a ton of stuff about resampling and whatnot but playing around with it heaps myself, I've had no luck. I've tried (in massive) using a slower (maybe 2 beat) duration envelope on a LP cutoff, and then putting a faster (triplet or whatever) LFO for the main 3 part wobble, but I still can't really tell if that's the general idea.

Anyways I know most of you all hate the datsik sound, and even moreso hate bitches like me asking if anyone knows how it's done, but I just haven't had any luck (for this secific wobble) anywhere else.

^^^ The at the drop, that wobble.

Anyway cheers to anyone who bothered to read this! :)

I'm just curious like you about this sound.

No tutorials at all.

Yeah exactly. And datsik seems to be the only one to ever use this technique. Which he totally pulls off, especially in songs like Mechano and Jenova Project where it boosts the 'dark and robotic' style.

Yeah but I doubt he'd just "tell" me the trick to his most signature (imo) wobble. Though he does sound like a boss from the posts of his that I've seen. And he hardly ever comes on from what I can tell, but you're right worth a shot haha.

argh i came to this thread hoping you were asking about

so datsik has a tune named the same now?

also try a respectful pm or aim message, most of these guys wanna help out and just are put off with peoples approach of OMG POST THE PRESET TO LATEST TUNE FROM ARTISTS HERE I DON'T WANNA KNOW HOW IT WORKS
datsik and excision learned shit from DOA and experimenting and used to partake in this board before it went shit, so pm him and hopefully he'll hit you back during a break in his latest tour (that's half the reason you don't see these guys posting a lot)

Yeah thanks I sent him a PM explaining just what I was asking, and if he could be bothered answering. I also put a link to this thread.\

Yeah actually it's a pretty old tune by Datsik, 2009 I think

Try route an lfo to filter modulation and draw the notes in individually using the attack to control the wobble.

I think that the key to making this wobble is just picking the right wave forms in massive and tweeking the wave table position ....as simple as it may sound its not,cuz in massive the possibilitys are huge,,i experimented with massive and found....when you open massive select the wave form called "chrome" and you can clearly hear that he uses this sound ,thats all i got for now,,,,i acctually made something similar but i dont have the time to upload i.youl have to figure it out,,

I bet he just makes the sound as if it wasn't wobbling. By this, I mean, make a sound that goes oowwaaahh as a solid note. Then 'wobble' it how you want.

In case you don't know how to give the sound such vocal properties, it's through a process known as "Formant Filtering/EQ'ing." (Google will be your best friend here)

Sidenote: I really REALLY like the intro to that song, but the 'drop' doesn't quit fit with the emotion set by the introduction. It goes from devastating sadness straight to emotionless robot, which I just don't like.
