Post by kreutzbube » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:30 pm

hey,
ive been listening to some acid tunes lately and i was wondering how i could reproduce that typical 303 bassline. which vst would you recommend to work with? and if u know where or how i would really be thankful for a small how-to. cheers!

In Logic, the ES1 is amazing for some acid style synths

Audiorealism Bassline http://www.audiorealism.se

Haha 3 different answers. Phoscyon is great, but I find it a bit more like a TB-303 with a Devilfish mod. Good for acid yeah. I find Bassline to be more true to the original sound of the 303.

Yeah Rebirth is a great for free too http://www.rebirthmuseum.com

A how to isn't really needed for acid tbh. Make some little melodies, apply distortion, maybe a short delay and start tweaking the filter. If you have knobs that transmit MIDI, use them! It doesn't sound right programmed by hand imo.

These days Cubase and FL mostly, a bit of Reaper but mostly for recording gear since Reaper is so fast and lightweight.

Any decent sounding synth that has enough filter automation options.

i personally think audiorealism abl2 is nice for longer progressing patterns like oldschool acid house while phoscyon is better when you want to go for a more crazy sound.
phoscyons inbuilt distortion, arpeggiator and the fact that you have way more control over the envelopes allow you to push past whats possible with an original 303 while still retaining that sound.

i'd say demo both, buy the one you like more.

I don't like the new Phoscyon GUI. Their old one was great... so great that Roland threatened legal action haha.
