the "walky talky" effect on vocals
how to get that radio phone effect on vocals? it's been super used especially in 90's and 00's pop music i'm sure you know what i'm talking bout! is there a special (free) vst that does it or what should i try to achieve this effect? i've fiddled out reverb and hi pass filter but still not nailing it

Re: the "walky talky" effect on vocals
Not sure completely what the effect you want is but maybe try adding some white noise hiss to the vocals? Maybe side-chained to them

distortion and high pass, garage band has a good vocal preset which gives that effect..maybe the only good thing about garage band
Re: the "walky talky" effect on vocals
exactly what i'm looking for. was thinking maybe distortion would get it. don't have any good distortion FX on reaper thoughJTMMusicuk wrote:distortion and high pass, garage band has a good vocal preset which gives that effect..maybe the only good thing about garage band

bugpass is a free vst with the telephon preset but i guess many other eq have similar presets
Re: the "walky talky" effect on vocals
definitely bandpass and apply some compression, then you can fine tune things by adding some distortion and whatnot!

I think there is a vst made for this called like speakerphone or something. Do you mean like how the vocalist from Cake sounds? Try Band Pass Filter(or an eq shape similar to that) around the mids and then some distortion and slap back delay.

Most EQ's have a "phone" setting. This one's from Pro-Q... the highest boost is +6 dB.

If I understand correctly, it's something like this:
moderate-light distortion » bandpass filter » moderate-heavy distortion
moderate-light distortion » bandpass filter » moderate-heavy distortion

You could also use some crappy headphones as a mic...
