What kind of audience does dubstep attract in the UK?
What kind of audience does dubstep attract in the UK?
Just curious.
I´ve been in London loads of times, but for some strange reason i´ve never attended any dances/concerts during my stays except of a few soul gigs a couple of years ago. So can anybody tell me, what kind of audience does dubstep attract nowadays? Of course it depends on the specific event and the artists booked, but is there a trend? Are drugs a integrated part of the dubstep events of today? Do people just smoke the herb or have most events developed into a "snorf-as-much-as-possible" kind of party? Is it mostly a white, black or mixed crowd? I know it maybe seems as if I'm working on a society ph.d, but I'm just curious about what kind of people who are attending dubstep/bass music events nowadays.
Thanks in advance

Totally depends on whether you mean London specifically or the UK in general, since every city in the UK varies massively and London is unlike anywhere else in many respects.
Hard to know where to start with the question man, but we have an amazing scene. I feel very fortunate as I live in London for Uni and I can go and see people almost every night, it's ridiculous.
Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and London are the best. London has Fabric, Plastic people, the nest etc. Manchester has the warehouse project which is consistently amazing, the lineups are always incredible.
The crowds vary quite alot depending on the club and acts. for the stuff I see, which is mainly Swamp81 / Hessle and the like, normally lots of edgy people in flat peaks but normally a good vibe. It varies so so much. wouldnt want to be anywhere else really
As for race etc, it's normally pretty mixed, all sorts.
Drugs wise... well normally most people are fucked on something.

depends where you go, generally there's waaaay more white people. a lot of the dubstep nights i go to are overrun with shirtless, snapbacked wankers trying to start mosh pits - smaller nights are usually much better and i also find ones out of london are much friendlier, such an aggy vibe about a lot of places which really ruins it

Really depends on the night.
I think it is a younger crowd generally than D&B or something. Probably less drugs overall as well.
I'm sure everyone has different experiences though.

the crowd tend to be wicked wherever i've mostly been...probably because the music i listen to doesn't really involve moshing but an eyes down style mutual understanding of what we're all there for... none of that probably made sense but i get what i mean lol

It definetely varies upon cities. Being born in manc going to nights such as h&r there's always a good vibe, big mix of people. Living in Brighton now, theres more of a focus on 130bpm sort of nights with as said above people in snapbacks. Decent vibes, more people on drugs in Brighton (kind of expected).
Its still 2006
