Just a thought.
Just a thought.
I think this is already happening, but I am disconnected from a lot of music news and stuff, but I think we should abandon genre names and just call it bass music at x bpm.
Thoughts?
Thoughts?

Re: Just a thought.
i still don't get why people use that "bass music" tag while complaining for the brostep/dubstep thing
Bass Music was a pretty popular genre/scene in the second wave of electro, more specifically the less futuristic, more fun, party, ghetto stuff which was not produced in detroit nor it was part of the hip hop-tinged electro/electrofunk/808. Mostly production in the time-range 1990-1995, often very similar to "miami bass", both miami-based scenes, but real "bass music" 808 kicks were more hyped up and boomy, almost the 80 % in a track, designed mainly for insane car systems, in fact bass music format was cassette, whereas miami bass was vinyl...

youre not going to get anywhere fast by having on your press kit or site that you " dj at 150bpm." if i'm paying tickets and or buying drinks/paying for my girls drinks/travelling to and from the venue....i want to know more info.
removing genres, is a direct result of the entire planet being exposed to itunes/playlist culture...where everyone listens to all different music all day long. thats all fine and dandy, but to get people into the venue they need to know what the music is and bpms is not enough. thats not even talking about promoting/marketing/booking issues involved.

Re: Just a thought.
lol
I label all my soundcloud tunes just as "bass music" because it broadens the spectrum of what I can do and I don't have to think about what to label it
that's about as far as my thinking goes
