Potluck Sample Contest SAMPLEPACK UP, GET ON IT WARRIORS

Post by deadly_habit » Wed Jun 27, 2012 10:14 pm

So figured it's time to shake things up sample contest wise on here. Low and behold an idea!
The DSF Potluck Sample Contest!
Much like a traditional potluck this is going to be dependent on who signs up, and how many.
The basic gist is this, each person who signs up gets to submit 2 samples of their choice to the overall pool before the sign up deadline. Once the sign up deadline is met then a submission deadline of a couple weeks will be put into place to submit their entry.

Rules:
1.) No synthesis, only sampling, processing, or using samples as wavetables for say granular synthesis
2.) Max length of a sample is 30 seconds
3.) All samples must be 24 bit wav files (you can upsample 16bit, this is just to have a universal standard that most people work at in their DAWs)
4.) All is fair game for manipulating the samples
5.) Submit whatever you want, be it vocal, drums, 30 seconds of a reese note, or a snippet from an old soul record
6.) No genre or bpm limitations

Now anyone interested we can setup a sign up deadline later on and edit into this part of the thread, I can setup an ftp folder and acct to my site to send all the samples too and then once the deadline is met, publicly share a rar/zipped file of all the samples for quick download.

Lemme know what yall think :Q:

DEADLINES:
Sign Up - July 8th
Samples Submitted - July 14th
Entries Submitted - July 31st

SAMPLEPACK DL HERE - http://deadlyhabit.com/potluck/potluck001.rar

the rest of you who signed up failed to meet the sample submission deadline (even with a 24hr extension sheesh!)

That sounds fun, I'd participate.

Probably don't really need to upsample 16bit as all of our DAWs accept 16bit and run in 32bit anyway?

Yeah 24 bit is nice, but I'd rather have a 16 bit file than an upsampled 16>24.
Doesn't matter though, good sample is a good sample. Just being a nerd about it.

I'd suggest the only genre limitation be that maybe it's not related to dubstep or its subgenres? For example no wobble samples or half time drum loops. Just throwing stuff out there, might make the results more interesting.

well i know i can take a dubstep wobble and transform it to what i want any genre
i'm hoping for creativity with this and a range of genres/bpms

on one hand the more samples you allow to be used in the pack for the competition, the more entries will sound like whatever they were producing that day instead of an actual sample flipping challenge...

on the other hand, I love downloading samples.

see this is where we need to come up with the length of the deadlines
and should we allow those who don't partake in the actual potluck section of the comp partake in making tunes for the comp?

like i said i wanna do something new and diff

sounds good, I'm up for it :)

so is no synthesis allowed for the creation of the actual 2 samples that we submit either?

I'm in but can It be a straight unaltered sample that we find from a song/noise or do we have to manipulate it in some way

I'd like to participate if you're still taking offers.
And JR, I'm not sure it's open yet
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?
