How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
I'm tryin to achieve a pure low-end sawtooth, much like you hear in "Let's Get Beeped Tonight" by Dada Life, or in "Eyes on Fire" remox by Zeds Dead.
A very thing strong sawtooth wave as a bass, filtered controllably.
I bouth and use all of these:
Massive
Thor (Too little variations.. )
Famisynth (Free)
Z3TA (Too heavy on filters.. )
FM8 (Way too confusing, might return it. )
And some other Chiptune synthesizers.
38211 Bytes or something like that I think it's called.
It was also free-ware on Wooly's.
I also have TAL Bitcrusher.
It's very useful in my opinion.
I DO NOT have Sausage Fattener or Camel Phat.
I don't have the money for those right now.
So what should I do in order to achieve a simplistic thin strong saw wave at the low frequencies?
I keep my all my drums between -10 and -6 decibals.
I aleays boost highs by about 0.6 or 2.0 decibals depending on how overpowering something is.

Keep progressing, one day you'll be great.

But now how would I control the pitch?

Bounce the waveform out, load it into a sampler, play it through that.BYTEME wrote:But now how would I control the pitch?
Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
pure saws are actually a little thinner sounding then some of the vintage saws replica's in some of the newer synths. having a little curvre to it near the spike will warm it up.
i would also try adding a lttle of a second oscillator.
your also going to need some kind of distortion just to add a tad of dirt
another trick would be find this kind of bass in a song where it goes solo for a second. sample and cut to single cycle waveform and reload in a sampler set to loop
. Tune it and now you have that same bass

What do you mean by this?efence wrote:having a little curvre to it near the spike will warm it up.
Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
I think he means to make the beggining of each Sawtooth lastlonger, and hit the spike quicker towards the ends then immediately drop back down. Instead of the 50%-0% sawtooth.
Keep progressing, one day you'll be great.

haha man the pure sine is ill! you dont actually need much more synths considering thiswub wrote:Audacity > Generate > Sawtooth > adjust the settings

Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
heres some samples already cut to loops some even have key for easy tuning

i am so much finding that the massive sawtooth is 96% pure. tone generator is 98.5% if you know what you are doing. i have seen up to 99.95% pure sawtooth with Matlab. might be worth the good look if purity is important

Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
Surely because of the math involved I'm guessing the sawtooth in this is the purest?

Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
although hes looking for a low end sawtooth id say bounce it out at different octaves (or even notes) to minimalise aliasing on notes that are played further from the original recording..wub wrote:Bounce the waveform out, load it into a sampler, play it through that.BYTEME wrote:But now how would I control the pitch?
creating a multisample of it in .sfz format will work.
the only way i know of without multisampling is using cakewalk rapture.. it can copy waveforms without causing any distortion/aliasing at all.
its possible that z3ta+ can do this too but seems to be rapture thats known for this feature.
Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
Wait then what the hell was that weird sawtooth sound in Eyes on Fire?
I've remade it before on Massive but I still don't understand what makes it do that... It's so fucking weird. 0.0

if you on about the chiptune-ish parts in eyes on fire thats a square wave not a saw.

lololololol
how do you mistake a clean square wave for a saw... they are pretty far apart.

Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
I can now confirm 99.97% sawtooth purity using excel 2010.atlascesar wrote:i am so much finding that the massive sawtooth is 96% pure. tone generator is 98.5% if you know what you are doing. i have seen up to 99.95% pure sawtooth with Matlab. might be worth the good look if purity is important
Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
A pure sawtooth is impossible to reproduce on a speaker anyway. Unless you have a speaker cone that can teleport...
Raw monophonic saws are also hella boring, dunno why you'd be trying to synthesize one.

Re: How would I achieve the purest sawtooth?
We're working in frequency band limitations here, so your saw wave will never be pure. If you're talking pure in the sense that the waveform resembles the perfect saw, any tone generator will get you there. But like the person above my said, impossible to reproduce perfectly. Synthesizers can also do this, but they usually use pre stored wavetables for their waveforms, which often sound a lot better than a perfect saw.
I swear by Sylenth for all my saws.
