Sausage Fattener!

Post by Smiles » Mon Jul 09, 2012 11:50 pm

Just got this today and it is so much fun! What I think the fatness does is it is just compresses the shit out of whatever you put it on to distort it and I think the color just kind of distorts the higher frequencies more. But it seems like no one really knows what this does exactly. On some audio it seem to barley do anything at all except make it louder and sometimes it just makes everything sounds really mean and nasty, its great! When you record it you can see the audio getting flattened like a sausage like its getting compressed. I also heard you can use this for mastering which sound like fun. So I would like to know what you guys use this for mostly if you have it, and what you think of it. And if you guys know more about it than I do please tell me. Thanks! :D

It's really good if something is both too faint and too bland. It's also good to hook an LFO up to, if you need a quick-n-dirty wubber. As others mentioned, I wouldn't up the gain booster too much; it's quite easy to mangle your sound with this plugin...

As I recall it was just saturation and compression. I'd use the Bootsy ones and Camelcrusher imo.

Haha I actually used it on the master buss of my last track...served its purpose. I use it on a lot of bass sounds as well, really sounds nice if you dont overdo it (I usually dont go over 15% and never touch the gain or color knobs).

Camel Crusher and sausage fattener are completely different imo, camel crusher is just strait up distortion and sausage fattener just seems more subtle and distorts it in a different way.

"Better" is a matter of opinion, and opinions are hard to argue one way or another. Since Scream is only w/in Reason, not everyone can use it. Or maybe you're just sour grapes because the fattener is a VST plugin? ;-)

Camelcrusher is a great compressor. I mean that mixed with the Bootsy saturators would be a better choice and offer more programming ability. Plus free.

I love the little Sausage-man that fattens and gets obscenely excited as you use the plug-in. It was worth $30 just for that; no regrets.

Still, thank you very much for the Crusher tip. I looked up Bootsy... Wow he has a lot of free VST stuff: http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/vst-effects/
