Joker Masterclass
Has anyone seen it? I've been trying to find it for a while,
but my town decided to stop selling any production related magazines so I have to drive about half an hour to grab it.
So is it actually worthwhile? Sometimes futuremusic/computermusic masterclasses can be useless.

Re: Joker Masterclass
It will make you bash your head but it might be worth it.
1. He's got a shit load, like easily $10-20k worth of hardware.
2. He uses pretty much strictly presets it seemed like. That right there made me approach music totally differently, cause I don't really make brostep. And there's no reason to agonize over synthesis often when you've got a writing itch.
3. He couldn't explain what reverb was. Although neither could I till recently and he may just being funny.
I watched it cause he's a boss, but I don't know if I'd actually like him in person a whole lot.

Re: Joker Masterclass
Purchased the digital version through Zinio only to find out that they don't include the "in the studio with" video on it.
Bullshit.
Bullshit.

Re: Joker Masterclass
Well it certainly looks much better than their old ones. The camera is actually... on a tripod.

Re: Joker Masterclass
Even the KM one that ppl rave about was useless.
The best masterclass has to be Reso if I remember correctly.

Re: Joker Masterclass
I think useless is a bit strong, the tips they gave about recording snare drums from bits of wood breaking weren't bad.Electric_Head wrote:Even the KM one that ppl rave about was useless.
But what do people expect from these 'masterclasses'? Do they want the pros to write a melody for them, or show them how to exactly place the notes to get a sound? Of course, anything like that would be retroactive information at best.
All the masterclasses show is an insight into a workflow...nothing more. Whether the workflow is pertinent or even relevant is entirely another matter.
All he was doing was programming patches and showing how he interplays between those patches...again, an insight into a workflow, the only difference being was that it was a workflow demonstrating a style that people were receptive to.Electric_Head wrote:The best masterclass has to be Reso if I remember correctly.
