In need of some books.

Post by Skrew » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:52 pm

I just recently bought NI Maschine & Komplete 8 from Guitar Center and I've been looking for some books to help me use my new programs better that what I have knowledge of.

Are there any books on sound design/FM synthesis that use Native Instruments software synths in the examples like Massive or Razor.

And what's a good cheap book for mixing? Just to learn the basics of EQ, compression, reverb, etc. The Internet and YouTube is fine but I'd rather have books I can read through and highlight, take notes, etc. I'm more hands on than watching a 5 minute video with screen shots and crappy laptop microphones.

Thanks, and sorry if there is already a thread on this. I'm on my phone so I don't really feel like searching. :l

A great book a bout komplete 8 is the manual that comes with it

Im not even being sarcastic or anything, read it. They aren't combined into one giant one but each application has its own. They are pdfs

I already know how to use Massive and Razor. But what I'm saying is if there was a book to help you better your sound design. Like that "From Presets to Power User" book but with the examples and exercises to use NI software.

You could do a lot worse than asking Objekt this question in the Q&A at the top of the forum - he works for NI and can probably recommend something.

How to Make a noise by Simon Cann is excellent.

What ElectricHead said.

You can apply the principles from that book to all synths, it's just a case of reading the manual of yours to understand it, and it's workflow.

For mixing, I can personally verify the quality of the slighly pricey "Mixing Engineers Handbook" by B. Owsinsky

Hes written another called Becoming a synthesiser wizard: From presets to power user, both are really well written.
