Right, I get that part, but dubstep proper is admittedly very bizzarre, yeah? The interesting part to me are some of the old references he sites. That is some crazy shit!

It does TOTALLY suck ass when you see shit like this - http://www.dubturbo.com/- From a more philosophical position, however, it is an interesting question. It sort of puts me in the mind of bebop as a genre. When people first played that it was new, different, rule-less and FUN and nobody knew what the fuck it was.

So, yeah, genre-fying sucks and there will always be pop-subGenreHere and I hate that as much in country, jazz and rock as I hate it in electronic music because it seems like "POP" may be like a synonym for "watered-down-appealing to the least common denominator". Not a terribly enlightened statement, but true.

My take on it is: Yes, dubstep IS, in fact, avant-garde musical genius and that is exactly why the Pop-Music-Machine is always stealing from it in an effort to trick people into believing they are still relevant and why there is a built-in disdain for people who ask questions like "How can I make that Skrillex sound?" Because it flies directly IN THE FACE of the underlying principle of, not just dubstep or EDM, that is, we ALL want to hear stuff we HAVEN'T heard before. Sounds that stupefy and confuse us represent that "good shit" we're all looking for. The fact that MASS crowds are listening to Skrillex, in a concert setting no less, blows my mind. Not because I dislike the guys music or anything, but because the accepted definition of what can be called music has changed so vastly in my lifetime. It's nuts. Then I think about all the originators that get mentioned in conversations like this. I can't imagine how AWESOME it would have been hearing that stuff at a club ten or twelve years ago.
