Help with Turntable/Vinyls

Up until now I've been ripping off youtube for the past 2 years which I didn't mind as I've never heard dubstep on vinyl so it sounded ok to me, even though everyone says it's shit. As well as feeling as though I'm missing out on proper sound quality I feel like a scrounger doing this so I'm looking to get into vinyl which seems to be the way to go.

So then, anyone mind sharing some recommendations/advice on a turntable just for home listening? Looking to preferably spend between £100 - £150 but have got more if it's needed. I've searched around for a few hours but I'm still unsure what to do, I don't have a clue about any of this tbh. Any help is very much appreciated.

I would reccomend buying a technics 1210 turntable because undoubtedly you will want to end up DJing.

Just start buying tracks online get wav,320 mp3, flac where ever possible then buy some mid range bassy headphones and your good to go am not sure how the vinyl scene is but id imagine that alot of good tracks arent on vinyl

Try looking around for something like a Rega RP1 or one of the entry level Pro-Jects on ebay or whatever your local thing is? Keep in mind, you're going to need a phono pre amp aswell. I think at your budget, you'd be better off getting one of those cheapy USB turntables to start off with. Personally, I would be saving up and getting something better, and as others have suggested, if you think you MIGHT DJ, just get a Technics 1200 and be done with it - if you don't end up DJ'ing, they are EXCELLENT turntables for HiFi listening aswell, and very upgrade friendly.

EDIT: To the basics, you will need Turntable and a Cartridge/needle -> Phono pre Amp (boosts the tiny signal produced by the cartridge and applies RIAA equalization) from here the option are endless, you can run an RCA to 3.5mm cable into the line in on your PC soundcard and monitor the line in via software settings. You may have a head phone amp running some cans, in which case phono pre amp to headphone amp via standard RCA cables.

The thing is, I'm hoping the vinyls will retain at least some of their value whereas an mp3 won't and also all I'm really getting is better audio quality than what I've got now. I saw a comment yesterday that likened buying a turntable to putting down a deposit.

I've got plenty of money there, it's just that I'm starting college soon so I don't really want to spend an absolute fortune on turntables as I know income will be tight for the next few years. I'm leaning towards the technics as I'd rather just buy the best an end with it rather than cheaper ones and wondering what if. I probably won't end up wanting to DJ but then again a year ago I never thought I'd be wanting to play vinyl.

Definitely a good idea to buy top of the range as it will hold its value much more than entry level equipment.

Project debut 3 is the only way to go if you're wanting to listen rather than dj imo.

Technics 1210 is definitely not the Audiophile home listening solution.

Trouble is you could spend hundreds if not thousands going down that route.

Buy one 1210 from ebay/gumtree for a few hundred quid, run it through a cheap numark/vestax mixer and a good Ortofon cartridge and you'll be happy. Then when you want to try your hand at vinyl mixing you just have to save for a short while to be able to afford another 1210 and cartridge, and robert's your mother's brother
