Dubstep Production

Post by Nameless Electro » Sat Aug 25, 2012 3:23 am

I just bought logic, and I've used some daws before this such as FL studios, and a little bit of ableton, so basically my question is does anyone have any tips, tricks, samples, templates, drum kits, or anything at all that could help me, I'm trying to ge to the point that i can create tracks that sound similar to skrillex style, but for now I'm just trying to make rusko sounding tracks, if anyone could help me with this, that would be great.

Logic comes with pretty much everything you need straight away. Great sample bank, good visual EQs, limiters and compressors. If you are going for a Skrillex sound, my main tips would be:

Learn massive inside out

Get yourself a good Vst such a sylenth1 for pads and chords etc

Use audio for drums instead of midi

Go through and organise all the samples you already have. People often waste sooooo much time looking for certain sounds.

Focus on getting a good mixdown.

:) I hope some of that is at least abit useful for you. I think it would be best if you learn with what you have got instead of confusing yourself with a million different plugins and samples. Once you have a good idea how it all works then invest in specific sample packs. Primeloops are good, and skrillex uses their vocals too

Ok, yes this kindof helped thanks you, however I am confused, using ableton kindof gave me a headache, but one of the things I got good at was using a single drum, for example a kick drum, and then putting in a snare or clap after that, im not quite sure how to explain it but this video is kindof doing what I was doing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7y2SXS2jOE if you watch it skip to about 2:58 to see what I mean, basically i didn't use drum kits i used the single and thats how I like to use my program, so if theres anyway to do this please let me know also if i have to download something like the kick because i haven't found very many hard rusko style kicks, claps, snares, hats etc. yet.

Thanks! :)
