Re: has it become?
I agree. Every other thread is about copying someones specific sound without any regard for the fact that the 'music' they're making to incorporate these copied sounds in is shit. I re-watched the El-B masterclass last night and he talks about how you should be able to make something bump with just some drums and sub, everything else is added flavor. That some producers in massive studios with all the gear you could dream of didn't have a soulful bone in their body, and their music reflected that. I feel like that's where these genres are headed, everything is turning into an overproduced mass of garbage. No amount of complexity in how you process your bass, drums, squeeks and wobbles will make up for a totally uninspiring groove-lacking tune.. and I think that's something that's been lost in the mind of us new producers.

i think the problem is that there does seem to be a lot of differing ideas, everyone agrees with one another.

Re: has it become?
i think the problem is this is no longer production shit but opinions, we can give knowledge on how to make shit without our own opinions on the artists
this board has lost its way since the old days

I agree with this.deadly habit wrote:i think the problem is this is no longer production shit but opinions, we can give knowledge on how to make shit without our own opinions on the artists
Re: has it become?
I never give opinions about artists unless someone specifically asks for for it, dont think the board is that bad at all. UKF forums literally got shut down to 'legit spam' which means it was actual users rather then bots selling shoes, consider that for a bit.
Re: has it become?
You started posting trap videos?deadly habit wrote:wtf happened guys?

Nah I know what you mean. I'm guilty of some opinion posting, but it's a discussion forum first in my mind so it makes sense that there would be opinions and general chat, just in this part of the forum it's opinions about production or producers or whatever.
I think also people can just link to one of the 10,000 youtube videos to explain stuff now, so technical posts get a bit obscured.
Re: has it become?
I might make some trap soon.. got a couple project i can just turn down to 108 bpm that will do great with the addition of a squelchy pitch bended synth :p
Re: has it become?
I agree with deadly, I haven't been here long compared to him or most people really but lately I've not posted as much as I used to because of what deadlys talking about

I mean sure, it's good to figure out how to make a certain sound. But what's the point of copying an artist that's already out there? If you're just reproducing someone else's work it's nothing new. You want to be your own special you..your own king of your own crop..your shit that hits the fan that makes people go wild. Not a sound already created. Yeah, those metaphors sucked.
Anyways, If you make a sound and fail at it, you can make an even cooler sound out of that failure....
Still all the good old information is here. so I use that as a reference, and there are contests if someday I ever get to that level

Mods also do a decent job of keeping it semi-regulated.
Re: has it become?
fuck it, just make music.
