At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
At what Hz do you cut your sub off at? 30hz-???hz.
Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
It shouldn't matter in less your 'sub' is a high pitched scream, most subbass's are a sinewave. It is common to low pass at 75-125, but it depends on the rest of your mix and how high you want it. It's music after all...
Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
i guess it would depend on the notes being played + where the sub is peaking... don't follow a set number for anything it's almost different for every tune and sound
Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
Well sines don't have any harmonics so unless your playing higher notes you shouldn't have a problem

I always feel like some linear phase EQ on a sub at 20hz is doing more good then harm, cause i mean, those subsonic frequencies are just taking up headroom.

What subsonic frequencies? A pure sine sub doesn't have any. Other than it's fundamental of course.RandoRando wrote:I always feel like some linear phase EQ on a sub at 20hz is doing more good then harm, cause i mean, those subsonic frequencies are just taking up headroom.

Depends where your kick is hitting.Bassf4ce wrote:At what Hz do you cut your sub off at? 30hz-???hz.
If your kick is hitting at 100hz, then roll the Sub off at like 90Hz, this then gives the sub and kick room!
If your kick is hitting at 50hz, then its probably best your kick is side chained to the sub because the kick is definitely in the same frequency band as the sub.
Here is a link to where things should ROUGHLY fit (don't follow the numbers exactly)

Sine waves have no harmonics.. Therefore if you are actually playing a sub in the "sub area" which we've concluded is between 30-50 hz low passing it will do nothing

Very true, but say hes add a square to a sub or adding some distortion or adding anything that adds harmonics? He didn't specifically saying it was just a sine...ehbrums1 wrote:Sine waves have no harmonics.. i don't cut Hz from my subs
Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
Doing so would make the sub loose powerlegskeattch wrote:Very true, but say hes add a square to a sub or adding some distortion or adding anything that adds harmonics? Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
You should try rolling off maybe at 28-30Hz on the sub. You're gonna remove frequencies you're not gonna hear on 90%+ of systems and you'll end up having a lot more headroom for the rest of the elements of your mix. Try it sometime.Today wrote:i don't cut Hz from my subs

Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
you cant hear bellow 20Hz, but you sure as fukk can feel it. I try to leave it (for dubstep) unless things start getting muddy. and usually if things get muddy then the sub is only one of the issues (or mistakes) i made along the way.

In the appropriate environment, yes (and even that might depend on the age of the listener, how much is he/she used to listening to music in detail, etc). Which is almost never the case.Almighty Alias wrote:you cant hear bellow 20Hz, but you sure as fukk can feel it.
Re: At what Hz do you cut your sub off at?
Thanks for the help! Do you guys just use one wave or two with different pitch/octave?
