My songs sound like shit in my car

Post by elyhess » Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:08 am

I've been working on a couple songs recently and i've noticed that when im in my car and i listen to my song, the kick gets quieter when all the basses start playin. the sub bass is sidechained, maybe it just needs more? i'm not sure

Besides my car i think it sounds fine. I have pretty good speakers, and nice headphones and everything sounds loud and the kick comes through nicely. even the Wav on soundcloud sounds fine. so i just wonder if its my car speakers?(subaru outback w/ stock speakers) they bump other electro house songs real loud, kicks loud. Maybe because my song isn't professionally mastered.

i just need some light shed on this, anyone else play their songs in their car :)

Sometimes car speakers have exaggerated bass so it could be interfering with your kick, but I could be completely wrong. Maybe mess with the eq in your car.

Yea that's what I meant, check if the eq is flat or not. Thanks for elaborating.

Finding the right EQ on every sound system is the hardest task.

don't fix this with heavier sidechaining OP
review the money shot thread, EQing mixing and mastering specifically for the low end and fix that volume dipping the right way
IMO of course

possibly cchange your kick sampe

I have the same problem...i've set my car audio settings so that like every "commercial" tune i play in my car sounds ok, and i compare my mixes to those.
Shit, i had something to say but im too drunk to think how to write it................ :corntard:

so could all this really just be because i haven't professionally gotten a tune mastered? it's self mastered but def not as loud as the songs we all know

maybe you've compressed too much on the master channel...thats a good way of getting rid of the kick with a lot of subbass going on.
try eqing the hit of the kick on the sub bass channel with a tight Q? I mean you shouldn't have to do that if you've got the subbass side chained on the kick.

A random guess is that monoising the subbass frequencies might help your speakers carry them (spreading them evenly over both speakers).
