32bit / 64bit Compatibility

Post by ketamine » Fri Sep 14, 2012 11:20 am

Buying new 64bit iMac.

Own 32bit Plugins waiting for 64bit upgrades (and won’t work on new iMac):

-Will booting OS in 32bit allow these Plugins to work?

-Would booting OS in 64, but only Logic in 32 work? Or does OS have to be in same bit as Plugins?

>

As it stands (because these are very important Plugins to me (expensive Reverbs) I may just wait to buy the iMac until after they get upgraded.

You can run 32 bit programs in a 64 bit OS and a 64 bit DAW fine. At least that's what I have been doing on windows for the past 2 years, maybe it doesn't do that on mac.

It does. You can force Logic to run in 32bit. Even the 64bit version runs 32bit plugins via "32bit (or was it 64) bridge" that crashes quite often. Most good plugins have 64bit versions available as updates.
