Traktor Q&A

Post by Hedley King » Mon Oct 08, 2012 3:49 pm

After just 1210's for more then 10 years I've recently also got Traktor Scratch Pro (With Audio 6) its decent when it works but annoying for the set-up considering how quick and easy things are with record decks and CDJ's.

I can't find a dedicated Q&A Traktor thread so perhaps use this for people to add questions and answers and tips all in one place?

A couple of questions from me:

- I want to record output as I hear through the speakers (i.e. once gone through the external mixer) so have set the Traktor record preference to 'external', but this doesn't seem to pick up on the signal going from my mixer to the A6 'main in' slot even though it lights up when a signal is going in. The Traktor record preferences ask to set it up to decks A-D but I am using A-B for record deck inputs and the A6 has no C-D line in. What to do??? (I've just been using Audacity - that records straight from the A6 'main in', why so complicated for Traktor to be set up to do the same?)

- Playlists don't seem to be able to be put into any order- not in the way like the iTunes drag and drop into a sequence. Anyway of doing this?

- Is there a shortcut for loading a tune rather than dragging and dropping from the lists?

- Any way of triggering the remix decks from an external controller? I have samples loaded into the three remix sets for decks C and D and want them to each be mapped to a trigger from the Axiom keyboard)

....one tip I can now give after hours wasted is if you are mapping an external controller then make sure you click 'export' and tick the boxes for things like 'audio device settings' or half of the saved functions seem to get lost without warning.

I recommend kontrol x1 if you haven't looked into it. Comes mapped with track scroll and load for each deck and is very intuitive for using hit points and looping without manually mapping. I have f1 as well but x1 is a gem of a controller. Another tip is you can use your mixers send channel with your 5/6 channel which is nice to keep a delay or effect so you can cut the sound and let the delay tail play.

Yeah the Kontrol things look fun, am a bit pissed off Traktor seem to have deliberatly made some functions of things like the remix decks un-mappable for controllers that aren't their products. My Axiom Pro has plenty of controls that could be assigned.

I'll try the send channel tip cheers, sounds decent.

With the playlist thing you can just drag the track to the place you want it in the list, if that's what you mean.
There is a shortcut for loading tracks to either deck A or B etc..
I use channel D output on my a8 to record the mixer's record bus.

Note that with mapping a controller, you'll often want to have the same functions for A and B.
So just copy the bind you made for A, but put B in as the deck focus thingy.

Cheers- realised what I was doing with the playlist thing, was playing things that traktor was reading from itunes playlists rather than directly from traktor playlists.

Still having trouble recording direct from Traktor, but given up a bit cos its fine just clicking on Audacity to record- quite like being able to see the waveform scroll as it's recording to have a double check its working and its quick and easy for recording samples then adding some simple audacity fx/gain etc.

Now mapped a lot of the 49 keys on the keyboard plus about 20 knobs and faders from my Axiom keyboard....think I'm gonna need some stickers to remember what everything does!
