getting your stuff heard... w/o being a whore

Post by eenzo » Wed Oct 10, 2012 6:56 pm

Hey guys!

Been producing about a year, and I've worked my ass off to improve my production quality. I used to hate all my tracks, and i got so fed up that I deleted my soundcloud and started over. I've finally reached the point that I don't hate all my tracks, and I want to get my stuff heard, but I don't want to be one of those people that use cloudkillers or follow 2000 people to get 1000 followers just based on people's charity: basically I want real fans. I bought the ill methodology video seminar and ill gates refutes the idea that "good music makes you famous", so I'm looking for your guys strategies on marketing/ promoting yourself/getting your music heard and talked about.

Thanks guys!

Make good music so people do all the work for you. Maybe send it to blogs. Not a whole lot you need to do to if your music's already there in terms of quality.

Send your tunes to other producers.

Also yes, make sure your tunes don't blow ass as well.

you don't get listeners by sending your tunes to producers, you may get worthwhile critque though

OP network with:
-DJs
-blogs
-labels
-netradio stations that take unsigned submissions

send it to people who matter, think of them in terms of a network (how it will spread from them), while DJs are the obvious go-to purely because of dance music tradition, id imagine these days you'd be better off sending them to a blog or one of those youtube channels that deal with certain genres of music.

spamming is a definite no. don't force a fanbase, it never works and is pointless considering they're just numbers on a screen and don't actually listen to your music. in the grand scheme of things, having your music genuinely adored by one blogger who never leaves his computer desk is going to help your career x1000 more than some soundcloud scam where you end up with thousands of "followers". I've seen people with 1000's of followers and 1000's of comments on soundcloud who barely even exist outside the internet. it's not an accurate projection of a fanbase, i think in time it will be, but not now.

This. Seriously.
You find one person who has a good following and digs your tracks the words gonna get out.

currently going through this at the moment, its honestly fulfilling enough to just see this one guy constantly commenting on whatever I upload on YouTube and telling me about how hes told his mates about my music :w:

Go be like "Electrode" and comment on every soundcloud song you can find...they will check out your profile most likely..and if they like your song..they will follow you.

It might be annoying but hey...if you want to get your shit heard then might as well do it..

^I haven't done this yet but it's my plan in the future when I actually have tracks out.

music blogging is a full-time job for some people so i'd assume quite a few people read them.

I have never read a blog in my life! But if you guys insist please teach me the ways of being under boats. These days I think the only way to get noticed is if you make tutorials on youtube.

Say Blogger A likes your track and puts it out. DJ B downloads your track and plays it out. Say Listener C also happens to be a DJ of a bigger crowd likes your song, researches and downloads. Now DJ C is playing it out and its getting positive feedback.

Now all this started because "some blogger" decided to rate your track.

You have to cover every possible side of the equation.

Its all networking and is an art in itself.

I guess if that's where people are looking for music then I am all for it. The hard part is finding the blogger/s that like your music and have a good following. And, that is especially hard for me cause I don't even know where to find a blog in the first place. -__-

a little google search for "(insert your genre) blogs" will go a long way, most related blogs tend to be connected so it's easy from there on.

there's so many, you'll definitely find one.
