Dubstep becoming too dark and masculine?
Dubstep becoming too dark and masculine?
something random just reminded me of a blackdown article on pitchforkmedia where he wrote about how dubstep was becoming too dark and masculine and i was just sitting in the sun and thinking.. that guy couldnt be more right. now i love a dark, twisted, banger as much as the next guy but maybe more thats a bit lighter? anyways just my opinion..

Dark does seem to be the default setting for most uk underground music. it happens in every scene.

There's loads of diversity of tonality in dubstep nowadays - can't complain about the quality of recent releases at all. It's just unfortunate that at the raves (particularly the bigger ones) djs just seem to draw for the maxed out tunes that have cymbal crashes filling up every space and make people dance like cavemen.
The subtler tunes can sound amazing on big rigs as well as at home, it's just a shame most of them don't make it that far at the moment.

I don't know what you mean by ''Dark'' though, do you just mean aggressive wobbling tunes? Reckon I'd like to see more of a garage swing to beats, a lot of tunes all you can do is throw your gun fingers and drink up in the air.
Or stand and nod. Doesn't really feel like dance music a lot of the timeCorpsey wrote:Yupi-line wrote:There's loads of diversity of tonality in dubstep nowadays - can't complain about the quality of recent releases at all. Hmm....

imo theres room for every vibe. there HAS to be room for every vibe. there has to be every vibe...this is the entire ethos of dubstep so far as i can see. no rules.
