Caravan Palace ("electro swing")

Post by Maccaveli » Wed Oct 17, 2012 5:23 pm

Just did a DSF search and came up with almost nothing on Caravan Palace. How has no one mentioned these guys? They combine 1930s-40s style jazz with quality electronic beats and it WORKS. Some of the freshest tunes I've ever heard, so unique. Been bumping the hell out of it the last few days:

Not really down on electro swing, doesn't really make sense to me for some reason.

It probably doesn't help that most people who like it here are burners/new age candy kids

Me neither, but I don't think that's what it's intended for. I'm really interested to hear how it'd go down in a set of straight house and techno, just one or two tracks thrown in.

I've been playing this at house partys for a few years.

Always works.

What was the name of that DnB artist who eventually switched to doing this kind of sound exclusively? (30's/40's swing samples with beats) ... driving me nuts trying to remember!

Caravan Palace is amazing! Their self-titled album is amazing as well.
I'd love to produce electro-swing & have a 'ball' of sorts with a dress list for 30's - 40's wear only!
Just a dream of mine!

because hearing terrible samples over terrible boring beats isn't my kind of thing. not to mention how retarded the notion of setting something with swing to fit on the most rigid drums instead. aesthetically it's incredibly horrible too and has this kind of forced fun thing going on which I hate. you know like it's the musical equivalent of that annoying person that comes up to you then you''re chilling at the bar and tells you to smile More and dance when you''re busy in conversation. fucking nights here for electro swing everyone dresses in suits and shit too. like the music is so gash you have to entertain yourself by dressing up like a wanker. it's the most safe boring painfully middle class music ever and saying you like it is basically saying to me "I have no clue about music I just want to be guided into dancing by simple rhythms and overly fun kooky samples because actual house music requires making a choice as to whether I enjoy it or can find a groove in it.

You really have a terrible habit of presenting your completely subjective opinions like they're somehow fact that you can either agree with or be wrong, and sounding like a complete tnuc while you're at it... Do you have trouble making friends?

All this stuff is post-electro swing, this is the original sound.

to be honest you've actually come across worse here mate, wolf said electro-swing sucks, someone asked why he thought that, wolf explained his opinion and then you made character judgements based upon that and said that he often sounds like a tnuc...

see I think now your missing the point that it's possible to go out and have fun with mates who you enjoy being around. not evertrying is about music all the time you boob. I even went to an electro swing night with about 20 people cause the one who was getting married soon wanted to and we thought he should control the night. despite the c fact it was shit music it was a lot of fun but that's because we got soo fucking wasted and caused all sorts of chaos (culminating in one person getting naked.
