anyone else find the volume at venues ridiculous?

Post by Eat Bass » Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:17 am

i forgot my ear plugs to a recent Caspa show and the volume was pretty unenjoyable. the bass was nice but the highs were piercing. not to mention i have added anxiety for my hearing being a producer. i just think its stupid loud...

ninjas, would you advise wearing plugs to a dubstep show?

Never been to one, so I wouldn't know.

God yes! Call me a pussy all you want, I don't like the volume unless it's straight bass. Now everyone plays with the midrange screamer shit and modern talking "filth" garbage, it's unbearable. I can't hear as it is, I can't stand leaving venues literally temporarily deaf.
Also SCope, never wore plugs but I might start.

started wearing plugs for the Pure Filth soundsystem warehouse nights back in LA... pretty much eardrum-boiling if you're up front and without them.

yeah its pretty bad at times. everyone should definately bring some ear plugs. they dont block the bass either, they mostly just block the mids/highs enough to not be piercing.. works out quite well.

Yes volumes are redic. I'm ok with involuntary enemas from the bass, but cochlea piercing high mids can suck it. I'm just waiting for the day when an engineer can finally develop an eq that sounds better than a 20 cent piece of foam... oh when will the technology finally arrive?

i remember a few years ago i went to a show for like 4 or 5 hours & my ears were absolutely ruined the next day

but it was really funny b/c at the time i was working as one of like santa's elves at the mall, and the next morning i was the guy who takes the kids out of line & leads them to santa

but i couldnt hear what any of the parents or children were saying to me...

I usually have them just in case, but I don't put them in usually, the FOH engineer should compensate for screeching top end. Unless they don't have one, understandable if it's a small middle of nowhere place, or some actual rave in the woods I guess. Don't think I've seen Caspa since the whole bro debacle though, so maybe that's just how it's supposed to sound now lol.

Btw, in an emergency you can bust off the filters of a couple of cigarettes and stick them in your ears, it works decent and then you can use the loose tobacco for a couple of spliffs. Get 2 birds stoned at once.

SYSTEM damn near requires plugs as mandatory, occasionally we'd forget we were wearing them it was that loud

But yeah, if the FOH engineer is going his job properly you shouldn't get getting any proper harsh frequencies.

Tbh it was only the second System I felt the need for them, all the other ones have been fine on the ears

Yep, same. That second one I ended up standing back from the stack... all the others I've had earplugs or been given them (out to you and Briony :U: ) and ended up discarding them halfway through.

The system was built by VIVEK... you shouldn't need them anyway. :6: :6: :corntard:

Yeah Ive never felt the need, its only other people telling me I should that made me use them. 3rd one I tried and about midway it was just took them out as everything felt muffled and "off".

Last one was best soundwise.
Outlook launch party had my ears ringing for a day or so

SYSTEM was the only time i'd forgotten my earplugs and i was fine after that. no ringing or anything. but then again i wasn't hugging the stack just a bit off to the side..still pretty close though.
