Skyfall discussion (spoilers)

Right, fucking loved it. Continues the old school Bond vibe (tnuc in a Saville row suit) that Quantum introduced. No gadgets apart from that gun, decent plot which surprisingly didn't feel too long despite it being nearly 2.5hrs.

Thought Bardem was fucking brilliant (though watching it in Spain probably helped as the cinema was in stitches seeing him act so camply). Loved the nods to old Bond, the Aston etc. Thought Fiennes was brilliant as Mallory and glad he's now the new M, proper Bernard Shaw vibe on his performance.

Only bit that irked me slightly was the CGI komodo dragon and Albert Finney's slightly tacked on feel for the gamekeeper character, though he did a good job of a plot device and gave some background about Bond which has been lacking from the films so far.

I'd say it was good until the last half hour or so. What made him think it would be a good idea to drive off with M (a fucking old woman) up to Scotland...on his own...with no guns. The only gun they had was the gamekeepers shotgun which they are lucky they had due to Bond being a touch surprised that he was even there. Tbh it would have been a dumb idea had they had loads of guns with them.

The only reason they won is because Bardem, who had them all in the palm of his hand up to this point, seemed to turn into a complete retard for the final bit. Also when he burst into the court room and seemed to start shooting with his eyes closed. And no one seemed to bother trying to chase him or catch him after that. And yeah the Komodo dragon bit was a bit shite.

I did enjoy it though. The whole film looked amazing, due to Roger Deakins being involved. And I like the classic Bond touches that returned.

Was pretty underwhelmed tbh, maybe the Bond formula has just become a bit tiresome for me now. Nothing surprised me during the film really.

I need to see it again. Left the cinema disappointed tbh.

i hated the referenced to previous bonds.

thought there wasn't enough of the bond girl.

thought the opening scene looked tacky / couldn't tell if it was cgi when they were on their bikes.

it's either cheesy or dark.. not both.

Shit, forgot about that...yeah, the bit where they're on the roof of the grand bazaar was a bit ropey in places.

The opening bike scene wasnt CGI, i watched a 'making of' type thing for 20 minutes or so and they were both stunt doubles. Looked hairy as fuck like

Better than Quantum which was the absolute depth of the franchise.

meh, was staying at some mates for the weekend and everyone else was going so went along. First time ive been to the cinema since being dragged there again however many years ago the first lord of the rings was.

I thought it was watchable and didnt seem to drag, which is a compliment really as I cant fucking stand films - generally other than bond films anyway.

I think I just prefer the older bond films full stop. Took themselves less seriously. Swear they were a good 80% tongue in cheek back in the day (apart from the occasional cold war references or the one off missus getting murkled in that drive by) but skyfall felt like it just had the occasional one off nod to the old tongue in cheek days.

I dunno, I havent seen a new bond film in a while...or any film for that matter.

You know what, im probably not the best person to pass judgement. Hate the whole medium. But erm, it didnt drag considering it was 2.5 hours long?

I enjoyed it. Having said that, I:
a) Am not a huge classic Bond fan
b) Thought it almost didn't feel like a Bond movie

Your IP address gives you away, just saying ;)

Quantum was one of the best interpretations of Fleming's Bond IMO...no gadgets, no retarded plots, just Bond going around being a tnuc to bad guys in a Saville Row suit.

Stand corrected...there were a couple of ropey closeups of Craig that made me think otherwise.

Wub, though you may inherently be right (and I can appreciate to the letter reworks of books more than wild interpretations), Quantum of Solace excelled only in that nothing happened for the entire movie.
