What's with the oldschool producers?!

Post by Loyset » Wed Nov 14, 2012 2:28 am

Hey fellas,
I've just finished listening to the Skream/Loefah 08/11 RinseFM session, the Skream show was pretty good but I was really looking forward to what Loefah was gonna drop and I have to say, what a letdown... 100% house.
Skream has been trending towards house beats for a while now, Kode9 always had more of a DJ mindset and Benga is slowly drifting too but... Loefah?! WTF?! He's the last of them that I thought would cross the line.
I get it that producers have to renew themselves and that they can't keep on doing the same thing over and over, but why this passion for boring beats, tacky vocals and cheesy lyrics?!
And, most important, WHERE IS THE BASS?!

perhaps this isn't the most popular opinion at dubstepforum.com, but dubstep is pretty much dead. even the bros who ruined dubstep have moved on to ruining trap music now

2007, funny you should say that, I've always considered Disko Rekah to be somekind of epitome of dubstep lol

Loefah doesn't actually produce anything anymore. Also cowbell is the new bass.

I feel for you OP, to hear this being said about the "epitome of dubstep":
So we started this thing dubstep. And we were doing our thing. And it was great for a little while. And then I got to the stage in the studio where I wrote a tune [2007's "Disko Rekah"]...well, I wrote a "dubstep tune." Everything before had just been writing beats or whatever and it came freely. [But then] it was just like, I knew it, I didn't wanna let it off, and then I did let it off, and it went down really well. But every time I heard it I just felt, "Ugh, that's not right." I felt really wrong and I remember that was like the initial crack that started everything going wrong in a way.
ouch.

loefah is 100% right about disko rekah, it's a "dubstep tune" and its nowhere near as good as his other stuff. it's sad he doesnt release anything anymore but what can you do. loads of room for bass in house music

haha yeah when you compare disko rekah to mud/rufage/goat stare/root/midnight/left right left is it really that hard to agree with?
it's still a tune though.

as for OP, also taking a seatbelt here.

For every producer we've lost, we've gained so many more new, fresh and exciting producers. The sound is as diverse as its ever been. Plus those who have quit or changed have often gone on and done great work in other fields.. Jamie vex'd for example.
