Dustwyrm - Mortality

Post by Dustwyrm » Wed Nov 14, 2012 10:24 pm

Hey everyone! Want to share my new track. It's called Mortality and I used some Charles Bronson quotes for voice samples. Other than that it's made with FL Studio.

A few minutes ago I put it on Soundcloud, one guy there told me the sound is distorting a bit, however Satcha said it's fine on his set-up. I'm probably going to be bringing the sound level down a few db when I get home. Would appreciate any feedback regarding the distorting issue and of course and of course any feedback is welcome. Thanks DSF!

the kick is agonizingly distorted (specially in the beginning). its annoying. that aside, I see how the track is. It's not bad, but it's not awesome either. The problem with it is it's simplicity. Working with one instrument and a bassline doesnt work for more than a minute, unless ur going crazy with the switchu-ups/melody, but u weren't really. You introduce some new elements later, but since we've been used to the wobbles for 2 mins, the bells dont chime in well with the track. The bleeps are fine. The pad is alright, but kinda out of context. I see the mood you were going for, there's another distortion towards the end, too, with the bass. anyway, even tho i seemed to have bashed it alot, i DO like the track. The wobbles were good before they became alittle boring, and the atmospheric elements were also good, had they been in a different song. Together, though, Im not sure what to make of this. Keep em coming though!

@ Rappone - For sure man, a little torn with how I feel about the track as well, I put a lot of time into it and started to realize I was kinda building a lot similar patterns, I guess I just felt like making a very raw feeling blunt track that hits the subs well in the car.

Anywho, I just decided to wrap it up and throwit up for some critical rapport. Not sure what to do about the distortion in the beginning or at the end, as for some reason it's not picking up any distortion regarding the kick/bass on my monitors, headphones or car stereo. The snare is too loud, is that maybe what you meant? Others have reported distortion so I don't doubt ya there, just not sure how to mend it though. Thank you for blasting it, honestly! I appreciate the criticism, plus it's good to know the assumptions regarding certain aspects of the track in my head are backed up similarly by what you've noticed.

@ Just realized this. Perhaps that kick you're describing is the one that squishes at the end of a bar. That one was meant to be distorted, if that's the one you're talking about. However, it definitely may come across as agonizing I can see that :)

Ok guys I re-did a few things with some advice from other forum members and guys on soundcloud. Please take another listen if you can please.

I don't think this song is up everyone's alley, it's a little different from the normal stuff here, but I just wanted to share it and see if anyone likes it.

I couldn't go away with the bell synth, just lost the feel of the song, so they were refurbished quite a bit but kept in the track. The squishy kick drum that completes some of the bars is supposed to be there. I'm sorry if it hurts anyone's ears, some have said it does. On all my sound systems it sounded fine so dunno what to say :)

The track is what it is :p Thanks for listening!

I'm much more into your Kill the dead tune. I love the reese-esque bass in there... i think you should take your wobble and eliminate some of the higher end to it and focus on the mid to low end. Just personal opinion but otherwise pretty sick bro. Keep up the work its paying off.

Hey thanks man - appreciate any feedback, I'm really trying to push out as much as I can and just get better and more technical. I've beaten myself down these last few weeks trying to push out Kill and Mortality, spent countless hours trying to get better. I'm really excited for my next one I plan to start it tonight. Thanks again BBC , thank you for listening and inspiring me to keep progressing.
