What's the best laptop for music production?

15" macbook pro. get the late 2011 - early 2012 refurbished one with the hi res antiglare screen. get an ssd for the system drive, take the normal hard drive and put it where the dvd drive is and get an external dvd drive enclosure from ebay. i did this with my MBP and it works AWESOME. get the speed and stability of an ssd for the system, but have the storage and price benefits of a normal spinning hdd for your media. things are a beast, rock solid, stable, and just a pleasure to use.

Personally I built my own desktop PC could be happier. I bought a motherboard w all kinds of expansion options and the machine has grown with me for two years now. I dont see why everyone wants a laptop for production. I bought a low end laptop for word processing, spread sheets, internet.

Contrary to what many will tell you, it doesn't really matter what laptop you buy or what OS you run. Check specs based on price range and purchase accordingly. A Macbook Pro will only be beneficial if it's specs are higher than that of a PC of the same value unless you use Mac OS only software such as Logic. If you are spending $1,000 or less, do not buy a Mac. You will be paying for far less performance than you will desire. However, if you have the money to put into a solid machine (Recommend: i5, 8gb ram, SSD if possible, etc.), than go Mac and you will be thrilled! I have both a Macbook Pro (2nd gen i7, 8gb ram, etc. ~$2,200 at time of purchace) and a Lenovo Ideapad (2nd gen i7, 8gb ram, SSD, NVIDIA graphics, etc. ~$998 at time of purchase) and I will tell you that for under half the price, my Lenovo easily outperforms my Mac to the point that I rarely use the latter for anything other than schoolwork and traveling. That being said, a desktop is honestly the way to go. It's cheaper, has better performance, and is much easier and cheaper to upgrade.
