What kind of headphones do you use?
Dre Beats sound good, but I have a hard time believing there isn't something as good that is cheaper.

Same here. I use Rokit 5s and always reference back to the m50s for bass response.glottis5 wrote:ath m50s, they're great and like $150
There are shit ton of headphones that are WAY cheaper and better sounding than Beats. I really hope you got them as a gift and didn't drop $300 plus on those.DrVinnyBoomBeats wrote:Dre Beats sound good, but I have a hard time believing there isn't something as good that is cheaper.

Re: What kind of headphones do you use?
pretty much any pair of $300 headphones (that aren't skullcandy) are going to be better than beats. by defaultHostile Invasion wrote:Same here. I use Rokit 5s and always reference back to the m50s for bass response.glottis5 wrote:ath m50s, they're great and like $150

I use the AKGK701
these are pretty good, but I don't use them as often as I should as I tend to spend most of my time working straight off the monitors. They are open backed, and so are designed to naturally reflect how you would hear two speakers leaking sound from the left speaker to the right ear and the right speaker to the left ear, which you don't get when they are fully closed. The only thing I've had issus with over this though, is that often the strap at the top hurts my head when it's been on for over an hour. it presses down continually and doesn't feel like much at first until it starts to kick in. I paid about £200 for them a few years ago. They do look and sound great though.

I've never used open back headphones. It seems counter productive to me. How do they work?

Re: What kind of headphones do you use?
Sony MDR XB500s. They're not flat response and colour the low end quite a bit, saying that, they've got a lower bass response than my M1 520 monitors which are slightly lacking in bass response. I jump between the two depending on what elements in focusing on.
past a certain relatively low point it stops being entirely about the hardware and much more about you getting used to how your equipment colours the sound. Unless you've got an annoyingly large wad of cash to spend on high end gear, room treatment and so forth. tuning yourself in to your relatively imperfect gear is much more important than getting the best of the best. Imo anyway.
Saying that, avoid Dre Beats, they're utter wank even dissreguarding the offensive price and really shouldn't been seen as an option for monitoring situations. Well, if you really have no other option then of course but on the scale of things it's a really bad, uninformed choice.
I always have a little chuckle when I meet someone wearing dre beats. It's always the same type of person, fully emitting they're "in the music game", but immediately glaze over when you strike up a vaguely technical conversation.

no bad advice so far in here.
ultrasone pro headphones haven't been mentioned, and they are what every pro has told me to get when asked (producers, engineers, touring musicians, singers all fucking love ultrasone)

Sennheiser IE80

Very good bass response, excellent clarity, if you got a spare 200 quid/ bucks I heartily recommend them.
