Petition for Facebook: Let artists share their music....

Post by InternetSlaveMaster » Tue Dec 04, 2012 5:04 am

Facebook: Let artists share their music freely through their Fanpage free of charge.

Just saw this pop up on my news feed.

Sure it might not change anything, but it's worth a shot.

facebook is publicly traded now, they were forced to make decisions like this one because their stock was tanking due to lack of real income

Facebook will never see real income. Can't wait until they are dethroned. Everything on the web has a limited life span.

Right, so let's sit back and not even attempt to do anything about it.

realistically, yeah

200 signatures on an internet petition isn't going to do jack shit against the pressure of millions of stockholders

That's not the point, while only 200 signatures is hardly anything (no idea why they set it so low), my OP clearly said "Sure it might not change anything, but it's worth a shot.", I'm aware this won't change anything but atleast it's something proactive. I'm aware Facebook is public now, etc., etc.., I participated in that DSF thread too, my point is atleast it's something, rather than grumbling and just going with the changes we don't like.

Not like any of this matters, I don't see Facebook being nearly as influential in 5 years

Facebook seems to fill a major roll in many (of your) lives, what do you see replacing it, if you see it going away?

True but they have always had ads at the top and bottom and side of the screen. They probably get a fair bit from people who pay for xtras on games aswell

I remember when I (and everyone else) thought Myspace would never go away, but what happened? We all moved onto something that was (in my opinion) no real improvement over Myspace. Yeah Myspace was going down hill a bit, but jeez, atleast they let us see the posts we wanted to see. Facebook's new policies are killing it. The point of *social networking* is to see posts from your friends/other entities you want to see content from. Facebook is inhibiting this, and in essence, inhibiting their own business model. The whole idea of them not showing us things we clearly signed up to see is ludicrous, and I don't just mean "Oh my band posts are only seen by a few", I mean "Wow I'm hardly seeing updates from some of my friends"

Facebook claims that they only show you people/pages you regularly interact with to "prevent you from spam", yet business pages can pay so that friends of friends can see their posts? That's fucking spam!

I don't care if business can pay money to have their posts seen, what pisses me off is them doing that causes posts you would rather see not even appear in your news feed.

And they have, what, like a billion users? Don't tell me they weren't already making money off of all the ads they had.

LOL an internet petition for this shit? why are "artists" special? if you don't wanna pay move your promotion elsewhere, the internet is GROANING under the weight of free sharing platforms. Facebook is not your mommy, and "artists" aren't children. sure the new promotion tool is a huge bait and switch technique but shiiiit. a petition? sue them if you're that fussed.

"change dot org" can fuck off along with 38 degrees and avaaz and all out and all of these idiot organizations that think petitions are a good substitute for meaningful action.
