We’re celebrating our last Ritual of 2012 in style with producers Arkotypes flying up from Christchurch for their debut Auckland appearance, and Phonetics travelling from the “middle of nowhere” to join Tallan, the man behind Redshift-One Records. And if that wasn’t enough to get you hyped – we will also be re-inforcing the sound system at Rising Sun with 4 extra subs curtesy of Demolition Sound!

ARKOTYPES:

Arkotypes are a production and DJ outfit, following in the well-trodden footsteps of NZ dubstep artists making a name for themselves overseas and across the internet. The duo are originally from Europe (Epsom and Hamburg to be precise) and have been based in the shaky, bass-haven city Christchurch for over two years. They focus on producing sub and percussion-driven dubstep and have gained support from BunZer0 (Sub FM), Perverse & Kursk (Founder of Innamind Recordings), among others. With their recent release of “Millenium” on Optimus Gryme Recordings’ compilation “The Antipodes LP” and having previously supported the likes of Distance, Truth, Artificial Intelligence, we are very excited to hear what the duo will bring to Ritual XIV. One for the fans of the deeper and darker 140 sound!

TALLAN:

Tallan is a name that should be quite familiar to some of our Ritualites. This badman DJ and producer, originally from Wellington, has released on Optimus Gryme Recordings, Mindstep Music UK and just recently – US label Paradise Lost. Tallan also runs Redshift-One Records, releasing music from Compa, Gantz and Nanobyte. Expect a set full of unreleased sub-heavy goodness.

PHONETICS:

Originally from Nottingham, UK, Thomas emigrated from those shores in 2008 and was soon drawn to the peaceful charms of small-town New Zealand where he lives alone at the base of a mountain. Although often regarded as living “in the middle of Nowhere”, he is in regular contact with members of the Auckland music scene and on he odd occasionally can be heard via cameo appearances.

As a youth, Thomas spent much of his time listening to producers such as Plaid, Boards of Canada and Roots Manuva before discovering Drum & Bass and the UK rave scene. Thomas will be warming up the sound system at Ritual XIV – get in early to hear a performance that will without a doubt take you outside the box of regular club music and into a journey through the more emotional parts of the musical spectrum.

Standard:

$10 door pressure, $5 with Ritual T-shirt.

$5 beer and house double spirit specials.

Support from 36Deep’s Doc, Pimms & Lord D
