Vinyl prices

Just wondering why certain labels charge more than others. I understand new/smaller labels charging abit more as they're not pressing as many and they're uncertain of the demand but, labels like Swamp, WNCL, Osiris, Hypercolour, School etc charge the top end? (£7/8+) I know Swamp press 180's but still, with vinyl sales being nowhere near as fruitful as they used to be, these labels aren't exactly helping. And i know it's only a couple quid more but when you're making a big order it adds up.

Just asking as i was just about to cop the new Karenn/Analogue Cops 12 then noticed the price, nearly £10 for two tracks.. And that leads to another question; do labels/artists really think we give a fuck about embossed sleeves, camel hair inner lining or Blawan's nan hand stamping the record to the point that we'll willingly fork out extra for it?

When you take the record out of the sleeve it sounds warmer.

i don't mind paying a little more for full artwork cover and stuff. gotta admit swamp's overall appearance is pretty nice and judging by their sales most people seem to acknowledge that.

I personally don't think most of the labels I buy are that bad. Everything is justifiable in my mind. I think the only one I was surprised by recently was Mosca's Eva Mendes EP. That one is pressed on some cheap shit. Haven't bought any other Hypercolour so I don't know if that's to be expected.

Hardly? Each to their own, vinyl is expensive and the cost is going up.... just like everything else. I consider to me, collecting vinyl is a hobby. I was merely making a comparison that some hobbies are more expensive than others.

I don't "collect" vinyl to put it on display. I buy it to play it.

I like the whole hand stamped/screen printed thing think it adds a bit of character to a release which I don't mind paying a few extra quid for.

it's nice every now and then but it gets pretty annoying when nearly all the releases you're after cost £7/8

it's unrelated because:
1) we were talking about shop prices and why some labels sell their records for more than others.
2) buying stamps at the post office is cheap as fuck i guess, only collector's items are expensive - same like with vinyl. wasn't the topic of this thread, though...
3) most people buy vinyl to listen to and not to built a collection to jerk off to. however collecting stamps probably has the only purpose to built a collection. then again most peole buy stamps to just send a letter or a card.

How a bout a vinyl hand stamped in stamps? That could end up at about £9 I reckon

To be honest I don't think about it too much when buying. it is nice to have the artwork etc and to own a physical piece of music you enjoy, but unfortunately the price of everything seems to be going up nowadays. If anything it makes you even more selective.

Yeah I get what you're saying.

I buy quite a lot of 7" records and even those are starting to creep up to £5/6

Yup have noticed this myself too. Has made me reduce the number of records I buy hugely. Considering the fact that releasing vinyl is more about peoples love of the format as opposed to making money, the rate prices are going up seems to be getting a bit out of hand to me. Unless there has been shifts in the world of vinyl production that has put initial prices up significantly, I dont know why the prices are doing what they are. Especially with something like dubstep, vinyl is so important to the music...why price people out the market more and more! Would love to see figures from a P&D company or something.

As an aside to all this, there seems to be more and more releases these days that know they are going to be highly sought after and higher priced as a result. Cant begin to imagine where the justification for that comes from either. I remember when I used to feel raped paying £8 for an imported record, even understanding fully why its that price! Nowadays records are basically £7+...

add in people buying up vinyl to just to sell ridiculously overpriced on discogs, the amount of vinyl shops that have closed... it is looking that way indeed
