should i put my money into gold?
Economics ninjas, any ideas?
I was looking at the business section of the paper today and saw a piece on the price of gold/commodities which just keeps rising as countries move back to them to shore up treasuries- China for example. With all the banks being so exposed to sovereign debt which seems very shaky indeed, would gold be safer/more beneficial than in a bank or am i just being a bit overenthusiastic?

with only 10 days of existence left??
in all seriousness, i was always told that although currencies fail and economies crash, gold will always maintain its value. god knows how you go about it all though

Also when the economy goes to shit, what are you going to do with said gold? Keep it looking pretty and horde it until the economy gets better? Having a food storage would probably be a better use of your money, and could probably yield great returns tbh.

Re: should i put my money into gold?
if it gets to the point where you need gold, you'll probably wish you had food instead, since there will be more hungry/thirsty people than people who want gold.hutyluty wrote:Well i'm bankingkidshuffle wrote:Also when the economy goes to shit, what are you going to do with said gold? invest in land and sustainable agriculture with some defense around it if you really want to survive in some sort of post-collapse scenario.

Gold can be a good hedge against inflation. It is a cliche, but diversification is recommended when investing.

Re: should i put my money into gold?
does the situation have to be of the post-apocalyptic calibre? can't i just buy some gold and horde it for a few decades then sell it again at higher costs? somebody enlighten me, i fucking hate economics with a passion and it isn't my forte.

Re: should i put my money into gold?
it depends on how much money you have to invest, if you're doing it for less doom and gloom reasons... a couple million could make a nice chunk of change, but a couple hundred could be better invested in something that nets a better profit percentage.
could always get a little riskier and invest in thorium or rhodium if you're looking for spikes in market price
