charles2charlie original song + Nicki Minaj rmx (dubstep)

Post by charles2charlie » Tue Dec 18, 2012 10:07 am

Hey guys I am charles2charlie, 21 year old from Australia.

I'm working on a remix and I thought I'd share what I've done so far, seeing as there's far too many terrible dubstep remixes on YouTube so I thought I'd upload a demo and see what type of feedback I'd get before I'd contribute my shitty audio to the mess that's there already
This took me 2-3 hours to scrap together, I'll be finishing it soon and hopefully everyone enjoys it and I'll put up a download link via soundcloud

My original song is called New Style, New Flow which I made in a few hours, hope you guys like it my work!

Ok, the remix first. You've sped the samples up a little too much and it's got that whole euro house feel to it. When the Dubstep section hits, the beat programming is lazy and uninspiring. The kick snare kick kick snare pattern lacks any real variation to it. The midrange noises at 1m04s just sound like a collection of bass patches fighting with one another and its lacking any real cohesiveness to the tune as a whole.

For New Style..., the beat programming is again pretty regimented and gets overly repeated and loopy as the tune progresses. The bass patches whilst slightly more cohesive don't sound like they've been EQ'd properly and are overpowering the other elements in the mixdown when they hit. I'd suggest some subtractive EQing to let the kick come through a bit more, it's getting swamped at the moment.

I know I'm probably going to sound like a dick, but hear me out. No one cares if it took you 2 hours or 2 years. People will say, "Oh, I pieced it together in an afternoon" as a bit of psychological defense in case the listener doesn't like it. YOU made the song, and if YOU like it, be confident with it! If you aren't confident with it, that's okay, but there's no need to put the barriers up.

Onto the song. I think the dubstep bits are a tad too random. It doesn't seem like the samples and synths and loops are working together at all. There needs to be some sorta underlying melody beneath the samples. Something to make sense of it all.
