Bouncy ping pong noise is a nice touch, but the tune overall feels a little on the empty side like it's lacking a melodic element to act as a hook?

You are right. I have never been one for melodies / hooks or even chords and chord progression. I find it hard to make it sound melodic, without making it sound "cheesy" or "mainstream", so I usually just stick to monotone rhythmic leads. I think next I will work on something a bit more "tuneful". Thanks for your criticism.
