Donkey Kong Country 2 (glitch-hop/brostep remix)

Post by oshino » Sat Dec 22, 2012 7:08 pm

hello, this is my first video game remix that is of the glitch-hop-ish/dub/brostep genre. i need honest criticism (mainly on how the mixdown levels/eqs are) please, it will help me move forward. it's not a song i'm very fond of as i tried to stay true to the melody using a "wub" style bass. thanks, and enjoy.

The kick and snare are a little drowned out in the mix, but from what I hear they're well programmed. Wobbles/growls sound fantastic. You could use some more modulation to get a little more flow, i.e. phase the main bass. Overall, it's well done. Good work!

Mixdown could do with another look, the kick/snare are being obscured by the midrange synth when it hits. Maybe try some subtractive EQing to create a bit of space for them in the frequency range to breathe without being drowned out by the synths.

thanks wub! i'll most def try that out too <3. also, this is probably the last song that would have the bass follow the melody. it just complicates things (drowning mixdowns, etc.) and sounds a bit excessive.
