Maybe an hour in the evenings if I'm working from the office, usually sound design work due to time restrictions. Weekends and days I work from home I'll have the studio machine running all day so I can drop in and out as I feel like.

As rayman has said, if you're using the time productively then it's never a bad thing. Just ensure you're taking regular breaks (45mins on, 15mins off) to allow your eyes/ears/posture time to recover and relax. I find fresh air and getting outside helps give me new perspective on things, but it's by no means essential.

You might consider taking a vitamin D supplement if you're spending a lot of time indoors and away from sunlight, however.

^ True that... Make sure to keep a healthy mind, and body, when working... Don't go without eating for like a week, and pump your body full of energy drinks, just to finish a synth line :6:

My work is computer based, so all day sitting still in front of a monitor there and then it's pretty much all I'm doing in my free time, except for alcohol, drugs and bitches. I can feel my mind can't really keep up anymore, I have trouble focusing and I'm constantly low on energy so a lot of the time after a day at work I end up in my bed with a shitty movie on instead of making beats. I wish I could get the self discipline to start working out and take myself fucking seriously but it's hard. Don't think this is related only to your time on the PC though, more an allover attitude regarding diet, exercise, sleep and what kind of shit you put in your body.

As long as you feel energized and healthy I don't think you're in trouble. This is the winter too, here it's dark when I go to work and it's dark when I get off work, takes a lot of energy from me. The whole country stops dead at this time of year, so I'm hoping it'll get better by spring haha. Might be the same for you.

It's cool as long as you enjoy it and are being productive in some manner, though you have to get out and about and breathe some fresh air get natural daylight sometime.

I spend a lot of hours on my computers and it is healthy to ensure you get out, even in the winter. Often a sedentary lifestyle is partly to blame for many modern maladies. Got to try and keep a balance, like so much in life really. It is not easy to maintain healthy time usage balances all the time. One of the downsides to modern life and high tech I suppose.

nah cun, i feel what he said. work all day (work=gay) only afternoons for beats but too tired for beats coz work=gay. fuck lifting, its for cigarettes.
seriously tho im the same. my wrists have become weak and brittle, anxiety and all that shit. i just find one of the main problems is that even listening requires me to sit a screen, dont even have to get up to turn it over anymore. we should all get an mpc's and start recording some vinyls get more invovled. that way ud have to move your arms to the direction of the vinyl player, find the the spot u want to record, hold it! then press record and let it go simultaneously, stop when suffice etc

I normally do like little 30-45 minute spells until I realise that I've got no idea where to go next with it, have a break and chill for a bit and then if I'm still in the mood for it i'll do another session. That's my biggest problem, most of the time I just can't be bothered because I'm so stressed/tired from being at work all day. The way I work around it is by doing most of the creative stuff on my day off and then just doing little tweaks during the days that I'm at work (after work, sadly I don't have the luxury of a computer at work) and then maybe add the final touches on my next day off. I normally listen to music when I'm not producing so I think that helps too.
