Compression, more like depression, am I right!?
Let's hear about frustrating times while working on a track. I'm still trying to figure out compression, and it's driving me crazy!

Compression is simple math. And no it doesn't make stuff louder and yes this should be in the production forum.

well it's not always the math that's frustrating. i know what usually confuses me is what exactly calls for compression or how exactly i should set the attack/release.

there's more than enough information on the internet telling you how it works and when to use it.

Compression can be used to give things more 'punch', I'd actually advise getting a compressor with automatic attack/release because then it will sound more natural. There was a free VST called the 'Hardcore compressor' for that purpose (ignore the name and don't over-do it, it's actually more flexible than it sounds).KamKo wrote:well it's not always the math that's frustrating. i know what usually confuses me is what exactly calls for compression or how exactly i should set the attack/release.
Best to sparing with it.
